UNDER 9’s SOCCER

Ton & Gelli v Porth - 15/11/09

Ton and Gelli Boys and Girls Club Under 9s mini soccer section hosted the juniors from AFC Porth for the second time in three weeks on Pentre astroturf. Two keenly contested games provided good entertainment for the sizeable crowd.

In the first game, a goal in each half for the visitors saw AFC Porth emerge winners by two goals to nil. Ioan Wilcox made some excellent saves to keep his team in the game and Cody Hughes was made man of the match after catching the eye with some excellently timed tackles and good passing of the ball out of defence.

In the second game an even first half saw the teams level at one goal apiece at the break, Ton and Gelli's goal was a well struck shot by Morgan Lewis after a corner. In the second half, Ton and Gelli upped their game and scored four excellent goals through the strikeforce of Josh Evans (2), James Morey and Kieron Evans to run out 5-1 victors.  Ben Thomas was named man of the match for his battling midfield showing including some strong tackling.

UNDER 9’s SOCCER

Tonyrefail v Ton & Gelli - 08/11/09

Ton and Gelli Boys and Girls Club Under 9’s mini soccer section travelled down to Tonyrefail to play Ely Valley on the all weather astroturf at the local Comprehensive School. A sunny morning greeted the enthusiastic young footballers for a change.

Playing with a little more confidence after improved showings in recent weeks, the first match was a closely fought encounter between two evenly matched teams.

With the game looking like heading for a nil nil stalemate, some good link up play between Alex Morgan and Josh Evans saw the ball passed to Nathan Jones who made no mistake with a powerful finish past the home goalkeeper and a late winner.

An excellent all round team performance with Garin Beams named man of the match for his all energy display.

The second game saw the younger players being given a full match for the first week. Ton and Gelli started well and dominated much of the first half.

Ben Howe was the first to react after a goalmouth scramble to fire home his first goal of the season. A couple of other missed chances were to prove costly. The home team strengthened their squad in the second half and scored three goals without reply to run out worthy 3-1 victors.

Jack Elliot was named man of the match for his battling midfield showing.

UNDER 9’s SOCCER

Ton & Gelli v Porth - 01/11/09

Ton and Gelli Under 9s mini soccer section hosted the juniors of AFC Porth on Pentre Park astroturf. Torrential overnight rain had seen all the grass pitches in the Rhondda succumb to the elements but the advantage of the astroturf enabled the U9's games to go ahead.

Two excellent games of football played in an excellent spirit saw the visitors from Porth emerge with two hard fought victories.

The first game saw a three nil win for AFC Porth with goalkeeper Ioan Wilcox named man of the match following an top drawer performance between the posts with some superb reflex saves.

The second game was much closer with AFC Porth winning by 2 goals 1 to one. Ton and Gelli's pocket dynamo Garin Beams gave the home team the lead but Porth equalised just before half time and a second goal after the break saw them take victory.

Shaun Williams was named man of the match for a strong defensive display.
