September 2002 COFFEE MORNING

today attended a coffee morning organised by Macmillan Cancer Relief, a UK
wide charity dedicated to improving lives of people living with cancer.
The coffee morning, held by Blaenrhondda Community Association at Blaenrhondda Workingmen’s Hall, was one of many held all over the country on Friday, 27th September 2002 and billed as ‘the world’s largest coffee morning’ to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Gigs are now taking place every Friday evening, alternating between the two venues, Pentre Labour Club & Ystrad Rhondda Labour Club. DRAMA - Cwmparc Welfare Hall has a new theatre director - anyone interested in drama can contact Louise Miles-Crust. A community questionnaire will be circulated soon to ask local residents what they would like to see developed by this new director. Courses run at the Cwmparc hall are :- First Aid - Basic food hygiene - 4 Computer courses Calligraphy - Decoupage - Sugar Craft - Textile workshop - Watercolour - Welsh. RE-UNION - Ex-pupils of Treorchy Comp (Form 5 in 1977-78), who have had a 40th birthday within the last year are invited to celebrate more, meet old friends or drown sorrows, at a reunion on Fri 20th Sept in Ton Pentre Football Club at 7pm. Entry £1.
SCOUTS - Treorchy scout group has closed and we are now without a scout troop from Pentre to the top of the valley. Friends past & present, as well as new interested individuals, are invited to get in touch to discuss the way forward to help build up a scout group again in our area. Contact District Commissioner Dave John on 437437 if you would like to help re-build the scout and beaver group locally - or contribute ideas by becoming a Friend of Treorchy Scout Group - or can assist even in some small way with the Xmas Scout Post deliveries in December.
BANDS - "Flipside" & "Nevill" play live on Friday 20th September at Pentre Labour Club, Llewellyn St, Pentre. Doors: 7.00pm. Entry: £3.00. Curfew: 11.00pm.
DANCE - Children's dance classes (Latin American and Disco Dancing) start at Ynyswen Welfare Hall from Fri, 27th Sept. Ages 4-7 from 4.30 to 5.15pm and age 8-15 from 5.15 - 6.15pm. Classes are £2.50 per session - run by fully qualified & professional IDTA & UKA dance teachers. Phone 07929 079403.
