ACHIEVEMENTS
- Congratulations
to Thelma Price, Vicky Griffiths, Teresa Hince and Lesley Crew for
their fantastic achievement at the Slimming World class held in
Ton Pentre. These
determined ladies have lost an amazing 20 stone between them and
are a real inspiration to their fellow members – having won
“Women of the Year 2005” in the Slimming World Ton and Ystrad
Group section. Best
wishes to Teresa Hince when she represents Ton Pentre at the
regional finals in Newport on 18th September. Ton
Pentre Slimming World members have lost over 350 stone per year
for the last three years - that's over 1000 stone in just three
years!!
RHONDDA OAP MEETING - The next meeting of the Rhondda Area of the National OAP Association of Wales will take place on Tuesday, 20th September at 10.30 am at the Ystrad OAP Hall (next to the Star Hotel). The guest speaker will be Christine Thomas, RCT Council’s Older People and 50plus Forum Development Officer. Anyone over the age of 50 is most welcome to attend.
CHARITY
WALK - Hannah Llewellyn, manager at HSBC Bank plc,
Treorchy is organising a charity walk (for 12 miles in the
Bridgend area) on Saturday 10 September. The
walk is to raise funds for Velindre Hospital, Cardiff.
CANCER SERVICES - Community Cancer Services provides emotional and practical support to people experiencing cancer in Rhondda and Taff Ely. Offering complimentary therapies, counselling and a transport service to take people to and from hospital appointments, they also provide transport to and from their centre in Tonypandy. They are particularly keen to promote the transport service as there are likely to be many people who would benefit from the service but are perhaps unaware it is available to them. All services are free, and to access any of them, people only need to telephone 01443 421999 or call in to the centre at 8 Dunraven Street, Tonypandy.
