BRASS BAND - The Upper Rhondda Brass Band rehearsals are now being held in the St George’s Church Hall, Cwmparc.

Rehearsal times for the Junior Band are from 5.30pm to 6.45pm on Mondays and Wednesday evenings.

The Senior Band will rehearse from 7pm to 9pm on Mondays and Thursdays.

All new members made very welcome.

The Band is very grateful to St George’s Church for allowing them to use the Church Hall.

DANCE - Congratulations to all the children at Yvonne Garrard Dance Class who passed their grade and medal exams in Ballet, Tap and Line Dancing. Thank you to Miss Yvonne who once again had a 100% pass rate.

Enquiries are now being taken for new “Litl Uns” classes beginning in October for children between the ages of 3˝ to 5 years.To find out more, please ring the box office at the Parc and Dare Theatre on 01443 773112.

  • WALKING THE ANDES - Rhobert ap Steffan, son of the late Rev. Stanley Hinton and Mrs Muriel Hinton of Luton Street, Treorchy, will be walking the Andes with Iolo Williams to raise funds for Mencap Cymru.

LIBRARY PLAY SESSIONS - Following the success of the language and play sessions held over the summer, Treorchy Library will be hosting Toy Library play sessions for parents and babies over the coming months.

It is planned to hold 8 sessions in the library every Monday, between 1pm and 2.15pm, starting on Monday, September 8. This activity is aimed at helping babies during their development process.

COURSES - The following courses will be held at Parc Hall, Cwmparc, starting in September.

  • Jewellery Making will be on Monday mornings, from 9am to 12.30pm.
  • Watercolour (New Class) on Tuesday mornings, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
  • Aromatherapy will be on Tuesday afternoons, from 12.30pm to 3pm.

HERITAGE SINGERS - The Heritage Singers ladies choir, which draws its members from both the Rhondda Fawr and Fach valleys, are resuming their weekly rehearsals, from September 3, following their summer break.
  • Rehearsals will be held every Wednesday evening in St Barnabas Church, Trehafod at 7pm to commence at 7.15pm.
  • New members are always welcome and it may be possible to arrange a lift.

SURGERIES - Councillor Edward Hancock will be standing in for Councillor Sera Evans at the Treorchy Youth Centre surgery on Wednesday, September 3 which will be held from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

  • Councillors Edward Hancock and Cennard Davies will be holding their surgeries as usual on Friday, September 5, from10am until 10.50 at Cwmparc Community Centre, Cwmparc (Parc Hall) and afterwards from 11am until 12 noon at Noddfa Day Centre in Treorchy.
  • There is no need to make an appointment in advance for any of the surgeries.
  • The Plaid Cymru Councillors can be contacted at other times by phoning Cennard Davies on 435563, Sera Evans on 777130 or Edward Hancock on 774785.

PACT MEETING - The next community policing PACT meeting will be held at Ty Bethania, Herbert Street on Tuesday, September 2 at 6pm. All are welcome to attend.

The last month’s three community policing priorities, determined at the previous meeting, were;

  • Youth Annoyance, Tynybedw Terrace. Youths are congregating on the mountain behind Tynybedw Terrace, Treorchy. This issue has been made a priority for the area to be monitored.
  • Residential Parking. Leaflets have been delivered to residents in Pencai Terrace, stating that the area is a PACT priority. Also letting residents know that they need a permit in order to park in the street and that if people park there with out a permit are liable to receive a parking fine.
  • Youth Annoyance, Vicarage Terrace. A number of youths are hanging around in the vicinity of Vicarage Terrace in Cwmparc. Mainly on a Saturday nights. They are banging resident’s doors and acting in a threatening manner.

Members of the public are invited to attend the next PACT meeting and help determine the next three priorities of concern, for attention over the next coming month by our local community support police officers.

YOUTH CENTRE - Treorchy Youth Centre is now open again, after the summer break, for youngsters aged 11 to 25.

  • Activities on offer are Basketball, Weightlifting, Arts/Crafts, Hair/Beauty, Football, Netball, Information Technology, Issue Base, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Record of Achievement, Pentathlon Award, Dance, Quiz, Gardening, Trips, Pool, Darts, Table Tennis and Badminton.
  • Entrance costs just 50 pence. Come along and give it a try, all are welcome.
  • Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 6.30pm to 8.45pm.

COMPUTER CLASSES - Treorchy Library is holding another two courses of their Computer Classes for Absolute Beginners, which will begin again this Autumn. The increasingly popular classes will commence on Monday, September 1, and continue each week throughout the Autumn weeks.

The first class will run between 9.30am and 12.30pm, and a second class will be running between 1pm and 4pm.

If you are interested in attending either of the weekly sessions and would like to learn some computer skills in a relaxed atmosphere, please contact Treorchy Library on 01443 773204 to book your place.
