RHONDDA CAMEO SOCIETY - At the September meeting of the Rhondda Cameo Society, President Crinllys Davies welcomed members and guests, as well as several new members. Our recent mystery trip to Monmouth and Caldicot Castle was made all the more enjoyable by a rare warm summer day. The death has occurred of former member Megan (Cook) Rees who had lately been living away. We also sadly recorded the death of a loyal Cameo member, Margo Jones. The funeral at the English Congregational Chapel was well attended by her many friends. The meeting stood in silent respect. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Mair John, and the Treasurer’s report was given by Betty Hayter. Secretary Megan Morris then made announcements of future events, starting with the Autumn Tea on October 27th, - would members please give in your names for this. The guest speaker, Mr W. H. Thomas, gave a scholarly account of “Aspects of South Wales History in the 19th and 20th Centuries”, in particular politics, religion and education. An appreciative vote of thanks was then expressed by Annie Clarke.
After Mrs Worman, chairperson opened the meeting and carried out the usual fire drill duties; she welcomed Mrs Mair Latcham and Mrs Florence Brown who had been invited along as quests for the afternoon... for full details visit our new section for Treorchy Senior Citizens' Club - see under "Local Societies" |
