  • APPEAL - Ynyswen Infants school are (for the second year) running the "Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child shoe box appeal. For full details visit www.samaritanspurse.org/uk In brief, they ask for a shoe box filled with items suitable for boys or girls in age groups, 2/4, 5/9, or 10/14 ( They are particularly needing boxes for the 10/14 years of age group for boys and girls as these are the hardest to do).

Last year we found that people did not/could not do a full box, so this year we at Samuel Footwear, Bute Street, Treorchy - tel:01443 773944 - decided to accept small individual items and make up the boxes ourselves. Things needed are very basic, for example :- Small toys -  car, puzzle, skipping rope, teddy etc. School items - pencils, crayons, pens, rulers, erasers, exercise paper, colouring books. Sweets - wrapped sweets, chocolate. Toiletries - flannel, sponge, talc, soap, toothbrush/toothpaste, makeup bag. Clothing - scarf, hat, baseball cap, gloves, ties.

A Christmas card from you and a photograph if you wish is also welcome. Items do not need to be brand new, just in good condition. Items not allowed are :- any war related items, marbles, battery powered toys, aerosols, mirrors, no food other than sweets, liquids (shampoo etc), medicines.

Each box also needs a donation of £2, to cover costs.

If you feel that you can supply just one of the above items - they may include things that you have at home and have not used or are in good condition, or the £2 needed to help us to do the boxes, please bring them into the shop for us.  Even a pencil will help us.  Let us give some children something for Christmas that costs us so little when our own children/grandchildren are so lucky.

Time is now short, the filled boxes need to be in school ready for collection by November 9th.  Please think of the children and give something. Pass the word on to your friends and neighbours!  If you do fill a box and can't make it to Ynyswen School, again, we will take it up there for you. Thanking you in advance for any help - Sharon Walker, Parent Governor at Ynyswen Infants School. Email: samuel.footwear@btinternet.com
