CRAFT CLUB - Lemon Blues Craft Club is in its 4th year, running in two groups on Tuesday and Wednesday nights during term time at 73 Llewellyn Street, Pentre from 6pm to 8pm.
  • There are two spaces on each night, so if anyone is interested, please contact Melissa Warren on 01443 422266 (Thurs to Sat, 9am to 5pm) or e-mail melissa@melissawarren.co.uk
  • The Club is for learning craft skills, for making items, for social and wellbeing - with no files, certificates or paperwork.
  • Member donations are £3 per session, including refreshments.

If anyone is keen to do a Wednesday afternoon (a few are already interested), from 1pm to 3pm to fit in with school times, let Melissa know too.

BAND NEWS - Hearty congratulations to 15yr-old Lewis Rees of Treorchy, on gaining two 1st place cups for his solo performances at the brass band competition held in the Forest of Dean on October 3.

Lewis also had a special award for the most outstanding performance, another award for the most promising junior aged 15 years and under, and a special award for the best tuba player, returning home to Treorchy with five cups in total.

Congratulations also to 11 year-old Dewi Kinsey of Cwmparc, who won 2nd place in the Slow Melody section.

Well done also to all the members of the Upper Rhondda Brass Band, who came 6th out of the 21 bands contesting at the National Brass Band Finals, which were held in Harrogate in September this year.

RHONDDA REMEMBERS - The Parc and Dare Band presents ‘Rhondda Remembers’ - a musical pageant commemorating the centenary of the Tonypandy Riots, at the Parc and Dare Theatre, Treorchy on Saturday, October 23 at 7pm.

  • Featuring special guests Thomas Coaches Mid Rhondda Band, the community choir ‘Faith, Hope & Harmony’ and local after-school club ‘Pentre In Tune’.

  • Tickets are £8 and £7 from the box office on 773112.

  • An education day (restricted to primary school children of the upper Rhondda ) is also being held on October 22 at the Parc and Dare, featuring a film and presentation by Selwyn Jones and David Maddox OBE.

HELP NEEDED - Community Cancer Services (CCS), Tonypandy needs cash/helpers/fundraisers/trustees. The fight to keep CCS afloat and serve RCT cancer patients could reach its climax unless there is immediate intervention from benefactors. Call 01443 421999 to assist a worthy charity.

  • ART EXHIBITION - Ystradyfodwg Art Society has an exhibition on now at the Coffee Lounge in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. There are about forty paintings on display and they shall be there until early January, 2011.

RHONDDA RADIO - The Rhondda community radio station is back on air at 87.8FM until October 15th, 2010 and is also online as usual at www.rhonddaradio.com

  • NEW ASPERGER GROUP - The next meeting of the Social Group for Adults with Asperger Syndrome will be held in Room 3, YMCA Buildings, Taff Street, Pontypridd on Thursday, October 14 at 7pm.

  • Carers and family members of adults with Asperger Syndrome are also welcome.

PACT MEETING - The next Police and Communities Together (PACT) monthly meeting for the Treorchy and Cwmparc areas will be held at Ty Bethania, Herbert Street, Treorchy on Tuesday, October 5 at 6pm.

All welcome to attend this meeting. There is on street parking. We have councillors, housing officers, local business members, youth workers plus other agencies attending the meeting.

Last month’s three priorities were determined as being; 

  1. under age drinking/youth annoyance alcohol related in the back lanes to the rear of Bute Street
  2. vehicle nuisance/inappropriate vehicle use in Princes Street/New Chapel Street  
  3. dog fouling in the lanes to the rear of Regent Street and riverside.

  • DIABETES COURSE - The next Diabetes Self-Management Course (2 day course) will be on Mondays, October 4 and October 11 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and on Wednesdays, November 17 and November 24 from 1.30 pm to 3.30pm at CwmNi, 156 Bute Street, Treherbert.

SURGERIES - Local Plaid Cymru Councillors Cennard Davies, Edward Hancock and Sêra Evans-Fear hold a Surgery on the first Friday of each month at Cwmparc Community Centre (Parc Hall) from 10am until 10.50am, and afterwards at Noddfa Day Centre, Treorchy from 11am until 12 noon.

Their next surgeries will take place on Friday, October 1.

Any resident of Cwmparc, Treorchy or Ynyswen is welcome to attend either of the surgeries and there is no need to make an appointment.
