BOWLS - Congratulations to John Meredith of the Frith Indoor Bowling Club (North Wales) for winning the Over 50’s Triples at the Welsh National Indoor Bowls Championships held in Newport on the 18th April. John hails from Gelli, and played for Ystrad RFC from 1962-67, and his interest in bowls started when he played at Gelligaled Park in his teens. Many will recall him locally from his time spent working alongside his father (Meredith-Smith painters and decorators) before he moved to Manchester where he worked at the airport in the fire service. A keen sportsman, John also took up running and completed many marathons – his best time being 2hrs 36mins. He is now retired and lives in North Wales with his wife Mary. A photograph of the WIBA O50 Triples Winners - Frith can be viewed at the welsh indoor bowls website, where John is featured with the trophy in the centre of the photograph. (unfortunately we do not have the website address)
