MAY 2004

  • THANKS - Many thanks to each of our trusty volunteers for trudging the streets over the last three weeks, to deliver our community newsletters to each home in Treorchy, Cwmparc & Ynyswen. Our apologies to those who live over in Tylecoch Row - who were unfortunately omitted - if anyone from that area would like to get in touch to arrange future deliveries - we would love to hear from you.

  • Extra copies have now been placed in local cafés, waiting rooms, libraries and community halls etc for all those who visit or shop here from further afield.

  • Thanks to the generosity of the boys at Caxton Press, who printed this particular issue for us and gave us some extra copies, we now have a limited number of spare newsletters available. If anyone would like to have some to post to relatives or friends abroad, please contact news@treorchy.net

BOWLS - Congratulations to John Meredith of the Frith Indoor Bowling Club (North Wales) for winning the Over 50’s Triples at the Welsh National Indoor Bowls Championships held in Newport on the 18th April.

John hails from Gelli, and played for Ystrad RFC from 1962-67, and his interest in bowls started when he played at Gelligaled Park in his teens. Many will recall him locally from his time spent working alongside his father (Meredith-Smith painters and decorators) before he moved to Manchester where he worked at the airport in the fire service.

A keen sportsman, John also took up running and completed many marathons – his best time being 2hrs 36mins. He is now retired and lives in North Wales with his wife Mary.

A photograph of the WIBA O50 Triples Winners - Frith can be viewed at the welsh indoor bowls website, where John is featured with the trophy in the centre of the photograph. (unfortunately we do not have the website address)
