TALKING
NEWSPAPER - Blind
or partially sighted people can listen to the news featured in the
Rhondda Leader newspaper thanks to the “Rhondda Talking
Newspapers” - based at the Phoenix Theatre, Ton Pentre.
Applicants
receive a cassette tape each week, complete with a free-return
labelled bag, which is designed to easily return the tape by post at
no cost. Send
your name, address and postcode to - Rhondda Talking Newspapers,

OAP
MEETING - The
National Old Age Pensioners Association of Wales holds an inaugural
meeting at Ystrad OAP Hall, Tyntyla Road, Ystrad on Tues 3rd
June at 10.30am, to discuss the amalgamation of Rhondda Fach & Fawr
branches. Members
of the National Executive of OAP Wales will also be in attendance and
all OAP branch members throughout the Rhondda are welcome to attend, as
well as anyone over the age of 55 who may be interested.

2003
- Former
members are invited to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of
Treorchy Comprehensive School Band. A Celebration Concert, hosted by the
television celebrity Michael Aspel, will take place at the Parc and Dare
Theatre, Treorchy on Saturday, 20th September.
The
school’s flourishing Senior and Junior Band and Choir will feature,
together with a Massed Band of former members selected from specific
decades of the band’s existence i.e. 1950’s, 60’s, 70s, 80’s ect.

PHEONIX
THEATRE - The Pheonix Theatre in
Ton Pentre has had “State of the Art” lighting installed through
a lottery grant. The backstage area has been refurbished, and new
electric curtains installed.

The
theatre can seat 300 comfortably, providing a more than adequate
venue for local dramatic and light entertainment performances. For
