OAP MEETINGS - Cwmparc Senior Citizen's Group for the over 55's meet every other Wednesday at Parc Hall, Cwmparc. Membership is £1 each year. Contact John Jones on 01443-777117. Next meeting 2nd April.

  • HELPLINE - A help-line for local people affected by media words and images of the Gulf War is being set up by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. Anyone who suffers as a consequence of media coverage of the conflict  will be able to get in touch and access appropriate help and support. The help-line will also provide a point of contact for anyone who is more directly affected, either as an individual or as a family member, by the consequences of war.   

    The Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Help-line telephone numbers are:

  • TALKSHOW LIVE - Rhondda based band Talkshow will be featured on Xfm tomorrow evening (March 18th) having made  the shortlist for the Xfm Unsigned competition. They are one of the best 32 unsigned acts chosen from over 900 entries from across the UK and from Monday 3rd February, each of the 32 bands have had one day on Xfm. One song from each of the bands featured will be played out in full on The Works (9-11pm) as well as being trailed throughout the day. Talkshow's Splinters will be the featured track on Tuesday 18th March.

    A limited edition CD of Splinters will be available from Fopps Record Stores across the UK from Wednesday 19th March. There'll also be in-store audio facilities, so you'll be able to listen before you buy. Fopps stores are located in Aberdeen, Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Dundee, two stores in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, Leamington Spa, London's Covent Garden, Nottingham and Sheffield.

TRAFFIC - RCT Council is considering traffic calming measures for Dumfries Street, Prospect Place and adjoining streets in Treorchy to improve safety for pedestrians and drivers in the vicinity of Treorchy Primary School.

Measures for consideration include road humps, gateway features and the introduction of a 20mph speed limit.

Drawings of the proposals are on display at Treorchy Library until 24th March.
  • REUNION - Pupils or staff members at Porth County Grammar School for Boys between 1955 and 1965 are invited to attend a school reunion, which will include a four-course meal, on Saturday 12th July 2003 at Rhondda Sports Centre, Ystrad. Contact 01443 675318 or 671994 for further details.

100th BIRTHDAY Geraint Davies AM for Rhondda visited Glyndwr Nursing Home, Ystrad on Saturday March 1st to meet resident Mrs Edna Jones who celebrated her 100th birthday on St. David's Day. (St. David being the patron Saint of Wales)
