ART
EXHIBITION
- A most popular annual event
returns this month to Treorchy, when Ystradyfodwg Art Society hold
their 36th Annual Art Exhibition in the Parc and Dare
Theatre’s Lesser Hall from Tuesday to Saturday, 21st to
25th June 2005.
Many
excellent works of art painted by the members will be displayed, and
are also available for sale, featuring a wide range of style of
paintings created through the use of oils, watercolour and acrylics
etc.
This
year, for the first time, pupils from Treorchy Comprehensive School
will also be showing their works of art alongside the main exhibition. Open from 10.00am until 9pm each day - but closing early on Saturday at 3pm. Entry is £1, by programme available at the door. Admittance for senior citizens is 50 pence and all accompanied children can enter for free. This
is certainly one local event not to be missed!
OPTION - Treorchy Primary School will now have the option of re-introducing squash on its school menu, thanks to Catering Direct’s decision to have a sample trial of ‘no added sugar’ squash in RCT schools. There has been a lot of discontent amongst parents since the children have only been allowed to drink water with their school dinners, after the squash option was removed by the catering suppliers some time ago.
WI EISTEDDFOD - Treorchy Women's Institute have won the Glamorgan Federation Women's Institute's Eisteddfod Shield for the third consecutive time, putting them on a par with friends from Treherbert WI who have similarly won the WI shield on three consecutive occasions.
RVIC REUNION - There have been literally thousands of people over the years who have received information, advice and help from the volunteers with the Rhondda Volunteer Information Centre (RVIC). The current volunteers are now planning a reunion this July to celebrate their achievements over the last 25 years. Anybody who was on the management committee, or who helped out as a volunteer, are urged to contact ‘the cabin’ on 01443 437253 or 432942.
CAR BOOT - The next monthly car boot sale held at Ysbyty George Thomas car park will take place on Saturday 4th June and is open from 8am until 1pm. Charges for cars is now £4 and vans cost £5. All welcome and proceeds as usual go to the Fernhill Ward.
BOOK SIGNING - Professional artist William (Bill) Wheeler will be at Treorchy Library from 9.30 am on Thursday 2nd June for a book signing session to mark the launch of his first book. More details and photographs will appear here later...
ART
DEMO - Bristol
based Paul Weaver was the visiting artist to the Ystradyfodwg Art
Society, at the Abergorki Hall, Treorchy last month, with another
excellent demonstration of the skills and techniques of watercolour
painting given by this popular artist. Paul is a natural artist
and teacher and his many useful tips will help our members
to, hopefully, create better paintings. The finished painting (opposite) can be seen on our web pages provided by our local community website at www.treorchy.net inside their Art Gallery section - along with many other works of art and earlier demonstrations. (see under the Art Gallery link on the main page) It will also be displayed later this month in our annual exhibition at the Parc and Dare, as Paul donated the painting to our Society on completion.
A Founder's Trophy has been designed for the competition and we hope that this new development will become a fixture in the annual events of the arts in the valley. We are all looking forward to the show, so do please come along and join us at the Parc and Dare. The annual exhibition begins on Tuesday 21st June and will run until Saturday 25th. Doors will be open from 10.00am until 9pm each day, but will close on Saturday at 3pm. Sold paintings can then be collected after 4pm. Entrance is only £1, by programme, available at the door.
