The Brothers of the lodge raised a total of £500 which was presented to the Head Teacher Mrs Jill Evans by Brother Vernon Pearce ROH who also compared on the night. MUSIC - Cwmparc Community Welfare Association and the Bakerlite Boys present an evening of music at Park Hall, Cwmparc on Friday June 25 at 7.30pm. “Pop Goes the Century” consists of 100 songs from 100 years in 100 mins and charts the cultural ebbs and flows of the century as it keeps audiences entertained to the last. The songs are not sung in chronological order, but the date of each song is revealed on a giant scoreboard as it comes out of the musical fabric of the show. As the 100 minute clock ticks away, the three performers transform themselves into a cast of thousands, just letting the songs speak for themselves without mannerism or modification and despite the word “Pop” there is no guitar or drum kit to be seen. The Bakerlite Boys have recently been described as “a musical counterpart of the Reduced Shakespeare Company” as they contrive to run the gamut of 20th century popular music using only amplified instrumentation and three versatile voices. Tickets are £3.50 for adults and £3 for concessions. Phone 776920.
