July & August 2005 RHONDDA CAMEO SOCIETY - At the Rhondda Cameo Society’s July meeting, members stood in respectful memory of Mrs Glenys Jones, Ystrad. ‘Get Well’ wishes were sent to those unable to attend. Secretary Mrs Megan Morris then announced some special forthcoming events, starting with a Mystery Trip on Wednesday, September 7th. She introduced the guest speaker, author and local historian Mr Ken Baker. He delighted the audience with stories of old Wattstown and his latest book “Cwtch”. An appreciative vote of thanks was given by Annie Clarke. Names of members and friends can now be given for the Mystery Trip.

RHONDDA CAMEO SOCIETY - Members and friends of the Rhondda Cameo Society enjoyed their summer day trip to Llanelli. The weather was kind, and after lunch the party proceeded to the National Botanical Garden of Wales, near Carmarthen. A mini bus provided transport from the entrance rotunda, up the sloped Broadway, past the lake to the Great Domed Glasshouse. It was delightful to see the many flowers, bushes and trees in full bloom. The tearooms provided welcome refreshments, followed by a visit to the Garden Centre to buy flowering plants as a memento. All agreed that the Botanical Garden is a Welsh National Treasure. Our next meeting is Wednesday July 27th when Angela Phillips will give a talk on “Far East to Borneo”.
FIRE - Two firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used one hose reel to extinguish a fire involving the dust extraction unit in a single-storey portacabin outbuilding - used as a metal finishing shop - at Cae Mawr Industrial Estate, Treorchy in the early hours of 12th July.
