JANUARY - FEBRUARY 2010

St.David's Day ParadeSAINT DAVID'S  DAY PARADE

The National Saint David's Day Parade, staged in Cardiff on Wales' patron saint's day, March 1st, grows in colour and delight year by year.

The civilian parade last year was supported by over six thousand walkers including performing bands, jumping stiltsters and groups in traditional Welsh costumes carrying the banners of Wales and Saint David.

The city is expecting the crowds to come out once again to line the streets and there is a welcome for all who want to join in the celebrations and or just cheer on the lunchtime parade.

2010 Parade: This year's route is shorter:

Muster from 11.30  King Edward VII Avenue, alongside the City Hall and the Law Courts

Moving off at 12.30, past Cardiff Castle, along the High Street and on towards the brand new Library and St David's2 centre, to finish in the historic Hayes (final route subject to confirmation).

Performances on stage are planned to continue for a while after the parade arrives in the Hayes.

Bands, dance parties and schools and community groups should register their interest in taking part in the parade by immediately contacting the coordinator on 029 2021 3629 or e-mail stdavidsday2010@gmail.com

CHOIR WEBSITE - Treorchy Male Choir has launched one of the largest interactive websites on the internet devoted entirely to a musical organization.

Following a £5,000 grant from the Lottery’s Award For All Wales fund, the website illustrates more than 125 years of music-making and its massive role in the cultural history of Wales .

The Choir, which recently saw two Blue Plaques unveiled in Treorchy to commemorate its achievements, was originally formed in 1883 and reformed following the Second World War in October 1946.

Since then the Choir has amassed an impressive archive collection of more than 10,000 items, many of which can now be viewed on line. Visitors to the website will be able to see hundreds of photographs, concert programmes, newspaper reports, listen to recordings, watch television broadcasts, trace any family members who were in the organisation and learn about the history of the music making since the 1880s in Treorchy.

A series of essays are also included which encapsulate the history of working-class music making in the Rhondda during the Victorian era. More up to date articles include overseas tour diaries and landmark events up to the present day.

Every concert engagement and every piece of music performed are also listed, along with a database of names of previous choristers and music staff. Visitors can also learn more about future concerts, merchandise on sale and read the many accolades from world leaders and celebrities.
