SISTERS REUNITED - Do you recognise these three sisters not often seen together?

They are the Evans sisters from Treorchy.

In 1965 Pat got married and moved to Yeovil in Somerset and two months later Mair become a nanny and moved 3000 miles away to Buffalo in America, married and settled in Florida.

The youngest is Lynwen, who has recently celebrated her 50th birthday and is still living in Treorchy.

This photo was taken when the 3 were reunited last October and enjoyed a rare week together catching up with relatives and old friends.

NURSING HOME PRAISED - Ty Ross Care Home, Treherbert has been praised in its report from the CSSIW for the high standard of care that it provides for its residents. The Matron would like to thank the staff for all their hard work and support and also the families.

The Home is very well supported within the community and one very special example of this was thanks to John, Gaynor and Suzanne from Barclays Bank, Treherbert. All the Christmas celebrations including the presents, buffets and entertainment was paid for by their ‘Make a Difference Day’ initiative.

The report found the Home to be “very welcoming, very friendly and the staff genuinely care for the residents”.

Matron would like to thank everyone who contributes to the home in any way, especially the staff at Barclays for all their ongoing support and she is looking forward to an equally successful 2008.

  • SLIMMING GROUP - The Ton Pentre Slimming World members have risen to 111 people attending the friendly class, with a total weight loss for last week of over 13 stone.

  • They will now be holding a double session next week, because of the dramatic, ever-increasing rise in numbers - thanks to the success of their "ever-decreasing" slimmers!

  • The new times for classes, starting from Monday, February 4, will be at 5pm or 6.30pm at the Ton Pentre Football Club.

  • Announcements made at the friendly slimming group included birthday greetings to Eve, Class Woman of the Year, who enjoys a ‘syn-free’ birthday this week, while Merley on the Social team was sent belated happy birthday wishes for turning three score and ten on January 17.

  • Allison, on the Social team, is getting married to her fiancé, fireman Andrew, on Valentines Day. Best wishes to both for their future life together.

  • Finally, good luck to the members in class who are embarking on the Slimming World SMILES SLIMATHON to raise as much cash as possible for the NSPCC over the next six weeks. Generous sponsorship from family, friends and work colleagues will be much appreciated. Watch this space!

RHONDDA CAMEO - The Rhondda Cameo Society meets in the English Congregational Chapel vestry in Ton Pentre, at 2.15pm on the last Wednesday of each month.

  • Also last week the class members welcomed Mr. David Jones, the Clinical Nurse Manager at Ysbyty George Thomas, who gratefully collected a cheque for £500 for the Hospital.

  • This money was raised by the fundraising the Class has done over the past few weeks which included a soft toy raffle amongst her family by young Ffion James; a tombola at Josie's family Christmas "do", and much raffle-ticket-selling by the Ton Football Club Slimming World enthusiastic Social Team & Members - meticulously organised by our lovely Gill Howard.

CHOIR - Cor Meibion Cwm Rhondda, together with their Musical Director Neil Topping, had a very busy week before Christmas.

On Sunday, December 16, 2007 they took part in the Carol and Lessons Service held at St. Stephens Church, Ystrad, and the collection was for Cancer Care, Tonypandy, which is a very worthy cause. Besides singing along with the congregation, the choir sang Angel’s Carol, Star Carol, When a Child is Born and O Holy Night, which were very well received by a large congregation.

On Wednesday 19th, they joined the children of Ton Pentre Junior School in their Christmas Concert at the Park and Dare Theatre, Treorchy.

Thursday 20th saw them take part in another Carols and Lessons Service, this time at St. Barnabas Church, Penygraig, the recipients of the proceeds of the evening were Shelter Cymru, another very worthy cause. They were joined by soloist Ros Evans for this concert, and Neil Topping accompanied Ros when she entertained the congregation with renderings of Panis Angelicus, Ave Maria and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, the choir joining in with this last item.

Ros informed the congregation that it was her baby daughter Fion Mae’s birthday, she was two weeks old, and was with the family in the church for the Service.  Fion obviously appreciated her mother’s singing, because she gave her perfect silence.

The choir again sang Star Carol, Angel’s Carol, When a Child is Born and O Holy Night, with Ros Evans joining them for this carol. Everyone who had braved the very cold night thoroughly enjoyed the singing from the choir and Ros Evans.

The next item in their calendar was their Dinner and Dance at the Golf Club, Penrhys on Saturday 22nd, when they had an excellent dinner with everyone enjoying a very good evening.

Rehearsals will not commence until Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 7.30pm at Ton Pentre Junior School , anyone interested in joining a Male Voice Choir, please come along, all welcome.

We have a trip to Ireland arranged for 2008; partners are always welcome at concerts and on outings.
