  • UNBEATEN - The Stag Hotel pool team remain unbeaten in Division Two of the Leisure Select Sponsored Upper Rhondda Pool League, after gaming a 6-3 victory at Ton Pentre Football Club.

  • The Stag, who led 5-1 after the singles, were helped by a Ceri Hobbs’ eight ball break - his second in successive weeks - to maintain an excellent start to the season, which sees them in top spot. Next week they travel to Cwmparc to play a local Derby against the Tremains.

CLEANING BLITZ - Heavy rain, strong winds, and a real reluctance by those in the command centre (below) to participate in the photographs, meant that these two are the best shots Treorchy.net could manage, when RCT Council rolled into Treorchy, as our town centre became the focus of the Council's latest street cleaning blitzes, on Thursday 10th February.

There were at least eight people standing in the cabin above, but as soon as our photographer pointed the camera - they all scampered. Honestly!

However, we did manage to capture some of the actual cleaning team in action, and Treorchy has never looked cleaner...

DOUBLE CELEBRATION - The Stag Hotel pool team recorded back to back victories in their latest fixtures – winning 8-1 at the Railway ‘B’ and 7-2 against the Prince of Wales ‘B’ to make it five out of five so far this season. In the local derby against the Prince, Ceri Hobbs achieved an eight ball clearance to put the Stag top of the division two league and seven points clear of nearest rivals Ton Con.

Singles winners were Matthew Romans, Jamie Evans, Kevin Moon, Matthew Cook and Ceri Hobbs, whilst Steve Hayes and Jamie Cook were included in the doubles to help their side retain their unbeaten record. Next week the Stag travel to the Railway Inn, Ystrad.

  • SINCERE THANKS - Michael Chapman, volunteer director and maintenance manager at the Phoenix Community Cinema/Theatre, called in last week on behalf of the management committee, to thank the four volunteers at the community ‘Care and Share Shop’ in Pentre, for their latest donation.

  • This is the second time that the lady volunteers of the fundraising Care and Share Shop have made a substantial donation to assist the local community theatre and cinema.

  • This time the money has been utilised to purchase lettering and numbers for the seating at the Phoenix and will be of great benefit to the local groups and schools that make use of the facility.

  • Thanks also to Dai Williams and John Doyle who ably assisted Mike in fixing the numbers and letters to all the seats – it was no small feat!

  • All at the Phoenix Theatre are so very appreciate of this second donation and would like to remind everyone of the excellent work and dedication of the four ladies of Care and Share, who continue to raise funds locally by the sale of donated items at their shop at 86 Llewellyn Street, Pentre.

AWAY VICTORY - The Stag Hotel Pool Team made it two wins from two matches when they travelled to the Ynyscynon and came away with a 6-3 victory. Matthew Cook set them on their way by winning the opening game, which was followed by singles victories for Steve Hamer, Kevin Moon, Matthew Romans and Jamie Evans, to give them a 5-1 advantage going in to the doubles.

The hosts took two frames whilst the Stag’s victory came from Steve Hayes and Ceri Hobbs to give them an overall 6-3 match winning result. Next week the Stag host the ‘Dog and Muff’.

  • ENTERTAINED - Ricky Rivers, a 20-year-old artist from Tredegar, delighted the audience in the lounge bar at the Treorchy Conservative Club on Saturday 8th January.  Both halves of his programme were filled with non-stop music from several decades, including many Elvis hits.  “Good luck in the future Ricky”.

YOGA TEACHER - A yoga teacher is required to take classes at Ynyswen Welfare Hall, preferably on Wednesday afternoons - but possibly on a Friday morning, otherwise. Contact Brian Jones on 422792 for details.

  • NIP AND TUCK - The Stag Hotel Sunday Night Darts Team played their final league game of the season when they travelled to play the Wyndham, Tynewydd. In a nip and tuck encounter, which could have gone either way.

  • The hosts won all legs of the team game to lead 3-0 before doubles victories by the Stag’s Lee Trythall and Ceri Hobbs followed by Kevin Moon and Handel Rich who made it 3-2.

  • The Wyndham hit back to win the final doubles, before Trythall played well to win his singles game, making the final score 4-3 to the Wyndham. Both sides should be complimented for a game which was played in a competitive but friendly atmosphere.
