FREE WEIGHT LOSS - A free Weight Loss Factory Session will be held at CwmNi Community Gym, Station Street, Treherbert, on Thursday, September 2, from 4pm and is a 2 hour session.

The session is entitled ‘Weight Loss Factory – Your Food Cravings Changed in 15 Minutes’ and describes a weight loss program where you eat what you want.

This program teaches you about your personal relationship with food.

Find out why you reach for your comfort food and learn how your beliefs about yourself shape who you are.

HOLISTIC FAYRE - A Holistic Fayre will be held in Oak Tree Hall, Cemetery Road, Treorchy on Saturday, September 11, so that members of the community can experience different types of therapies and treatments.

A range of things will be offer, and will cover Crystals , Auras, Workshops, Angel Therapy, Healing Sessions, Psychic Awareness, Reflexology, Art, Photography, Food Stalls, Goodie Stalls, Jewellery, Handbags, Sports Therapy, and Massage.

Doors open at 10.30am until 5pm and admission is £2 each. Workshops are £3 each.

  • COMMUNITY CINEMA - ‘The Last Airbender’ (Certificate PG) will be showing nightly at 7pm at the Phoenix Community Cinema, Church Road, Ton Pentre from Monday, September 13 to Thursday, September 16.

HISTORY - A 15-week course on the History of Treorchy and Rhondda will be commencing on Monday, September 20, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at Treorchy Continuing Education Centre, Horeb Street, Treorchy.

The 15-week course will cover the Cwmparc bombings WW2, South Wales and industrial change, Parc and Dare theatre, Treorchy Male Voice Choir, Miners strikes, Population changes, Living and working conditions, The town of Treorchy, Sites of historical interest, Photographic workshop, Treorchy library.

NEW ASPERGER GROUP - There is a new Social Group for adults with Asperger Syndrome where you can meet others with similar life experience and be part of a social group to do things with people who understand you.

  • PLAY LADIES RUGBY - Tylorstown Ladies and Rhondda Valleys Under 18’s rugby team are recruiting new players aged 15 to 65.
  • Both teams have enthusiastic and committed players with mixed experience and abilities.
  • Training is every Monday from 6.45pm to 8.00pm on Tylorstown Rugby Field with coaches Mark Kelland and Andrew Thomas.
  • We always welcome new players of any ability.

  • WALKING GROUP - The Treherbert Trekkers meet every two weeks for local walks.

  • New members are more than welcome to join. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Walks last for between 50 minutes and 1½ hours maximum depending on length of route and speed of walkers.
  • All routes are risk assessed in advance and the walks are led by trained walk leaders.

  • YSGOL GYFUN CYMER RHONDDA - If your child is in Year 7, 8 or 9 at Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda there is a Youth Club for them every Wednesday evening from 7 pm until 9pm.
  • This is a chance for these pupils to socialise through the medium of Welsh and we have football, table tennis, badminton, art, dance mats, Nintendo Wii & pool, and we go on trips each term.
  • We are in danger of losing this club for which we fought very hard if more pupils do not attend.

WANT2WORK PROJECT - Sessions are now being held at Ton Pentre Library on Wednesdays, from 10am to 3pm for the project WANT2WORK which is now operating in the Ton Pentre area.

If you are looking for work (full time or part time), becoming self employed, or looking for any type of training or tickets for work, we may be able to help you.

We can give advice on how much better off financially you could be in work, and discuss any financial incentives that may be available to help you return to work.

If you are receiving Incapacity Benefit, Income Support or not claiming any benefits at all we may be able to help.

The project is free, completely voluntary and comes with no obligation to join.

HERITAGE SINGERS - The Heritage Singers ladies choir, which draws its members from both the Rhondda Fawr and Fach valleys, are resuming their weekly rehearsals, from early January, 2010 following their Christmas break.

Rehearsals will be held every Wednesday evening in Tabor Hall, Pwllgwaun, Pontypridd at 7pm to commence at 7.15pm.

New members are always welcome and it may be possible to arrange a lift.

Treherbert Trekkers!!!

 

Join CwmNi’s walking group, the Treherbert Trekkers for its lead weekly walks and enjoy local scenery, get fit and have a good old natter along the way.

 

The group meets every Wednesday at 1.30pm at the CwmNi office

 (156 Bute St, Treherbert) 

for leisurely strolls along local routes and enjoy monthly trips out of the area.

 

Walks last for between 40 minutes to an hour and are a great way to meet new people, boost your energy levels and see the sights.

 

Individuals of all ages are welcome but children under the age of 16

must be accompanied by an adult.

BINGO - Afternoon bingo sessions are held every Monday afternoon at The Phoenix Theatre in Church Street, Ton Pentre. Doors will be open from 1.30pm and the bingo will begin at 2pm.

  • NEW HORIZONS - A well being drop-in resource centre, called New Horizons, is based at the Phoenix Centre in Ton Pentre.

  • New Horizons offers a safe and supportive environment to individuals who may be experiencing emotional well being issues.

  • They are open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 4pm and offer a range of daily activities, including Art, Crafts, Day Trips and Sporting sessions.

  • Advice and access to support services, as well as volunteering opportunities, are also on offer.

YOUTH CENTRE - Treorchy Youth Centre is situated in Horeb Street, just behind the HSBC Bank on the Stag Square, Treorchy. The opening hours are 6.30pm to 9pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Activities on offer are Basketball, Football, Darts, Table Tennis, Pool, Arts and Crafts, Weight Training, Quizzes, Dance, Cooking, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Record of Achievements, Photography, Open College Network Certificate, Trips, Disco, Residential Experience, Committee Skills, Issue Base Work, Environmental Projects and Netball.

Lauren Holmes, one of the young people who attend the centre says:

“ I have been coming to Treorchy Youth Centre for the last five years and I really enjoy it. I have an excellent relationship with the youth workers and supervisors and have met some new friends. I think people who are looking to have a good time and a laugh should come to Treorchy Youth Centre and try the experience, so I recommend coming to this youth centre. 

I am in the middle of my Duke of Edinburgh Award and I have just completed my record of achievements award. I am on the Youth Committee and also represent the Youth Centre on the Rhondda Youth Forum. I have also completed my netball accreditation certificate. So you can see there are plenty of opportunities to do positive things.”

  • NETBALL - On a Wednesday, Rebecca Williams is looking for a netball team to compete in competitions, with a forthcoming summer tournament to look forward to. We need more girls now and, if you are interested, please can you attend training on a Wednesday evening in the Treorchy Youth Centre.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB

GIRLS HOCKEY TRAINING

A reminder that every Monday (except holidays) there is a weekly Indoor Hockey Training Session held at Treorchy & Cwmparc Boys & Girls Club (off Station Road, opposite Treorchy Co-op).

It's aimed at girls between 7 and 15 years old, and runs each Monday at the club between 6 - 7 pm.

Please note the change in the time, this is due to the coach’s other commitments, if this causes too much inconvenience to some girls, please let us know and we will see if there is anything we can do to help.

The hockey is free to club members and £1 to visitors (this weekly £1 contribution also allows the girls access to all of the club facilities for the week).

Equipment is provided (although bring your own shin-pads) and a trained coach delivers the training.

Girls aged between 7 and 13 years old who want to learn new things, meet new friends, or just take part in fun activities are invited to come along to Treorchy & Cwmparc Boys & Girls Club. Yes, you don’t have to be a boy to attend this club – girls can attend too!

Plus there’s Tennis and Basketball coaching on a Monday, and Football Training (under 9s) on a Tuesday.
