SOCCER SCHOOLS -
Cardiff City Football Club has arranged their summer soccer
schools for the Rhondda Cynon Taf area.Cost is £25 for two days or £12.50 for a day. All courses are standard
for boys and girls aged from 5 to 14 years.
All coaches are EUFA qualified and CRB checked.

COMPUTER CLASSES -
Treorchy Library is holding
another two courses of their
Computer Classes for Absolute Beginners,
which will begin again this Autumn.
- The
increasingly popular classes will commence on
Monday, September 1,
and continue each week throughout the Autumn weeks.
- The first
class will run between 9.30am and 12.30pm, and a second class will
be running between 1pm and 4pm.

COMMUNITY CINEMA -
‘Space Chimps’

be showing at the Phoenix Cinema, Church Street, Ton Pentre, from

- A new project called WANT TO WORK is now operating for residents
in the Ton Pentre area.
- If you are
looking for work (full time or part time), becoming self employed,
or looking for any type of training or tickets for work, we may be
able to help you.
- We can give
advice on how much better off financially you could be in work, and
discuss any financial incentives that may be available to help you
return to work.
- If you are
receiving Incapacity Benefit, Income Support or not claiming any

Treherbert Trekkers!!!
Join CwmNi’s walking group, the
Treherbert Trekkers for its lead
weekly walks and enjoy
local scenery, get fit and have a good old natter along the way.
The group meets every
Wednesday at 1.30pm at the CwmNi office
(156 Bute St, Treherbert)
for leisurely strolls along local routes
and enjoy monthly trips out of the area.
Walks
last for between 40 minutes to an hour and are a great way to meet
new people, boost your energy levels and see the sights.
Individuals of all ages are
welcome but children under the age of 16
must be accompanied by an
adult.

NEW HORIZONS
- A well being drop-in resource
centre, called New Horizons, is based at the Phoenix Centre in Ton
Pentre.

New Horizons offers a safe and
supportive environment to individuals who may be experiencing
emotional well being issues.

They are open on
Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 4pm and offer a range of
daily activities, including Art, Crafts, Day Trips and Sporting
sessions.

services, as well as volunteering opportunities, are also on offer.

YOUTH
CENTRE - Treorchy
Youth Centre is situated in Horeb Street, just behind the HSBC Bank on the Stag Square,
Treorchy. The
opening hours are 6.30pm to 9pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
evenings.
Activities
on offer are Basketball, Football, Darts, Table Tennis, Pool, Arts and
Crafts, Weight Training, Quizzes, Dance, Cooking, Duke of Edinburgh
Awards, Record of Achievements, Photography, Open College Network
Certificate, Trips, Disco, Residential Experience, Committee Skills, Issue
Base Work, Environmental Projects and Netball.

Holmes, one of the young people who attend the centre says:

I have been coming to Treorchy Youth Centre for the last five years and I
really enjoy it. I have an excellent relationship with the youth workers
and supervisors and have met some new friends. I think people who are
looking to have a good time and a laugh should come to Treorchy Youth
Centre and try the experience, so I recommend coming to this youth
centre.
I
am in the middle of my Duke of Edinburgh Award and I have just completed
my record of achievements award. I am on the Youth Committee and also
represent the Youth Centre on the Rhondda Youth Forum. I have also
completed my netball accreditation certificate. So you can see there are
plenty of opportunities to do positive things.”

- On a
Wednesday, Rebecca Williams is looking for a netball team to compete
in competitions, with a forthcoming summer tournament to look forward

SLIMMING WORLD - Julia Demaid
would like to give massive congratulations to all at Ton Pentre
Football Club Slimming World Group who lost ten and a half stone
between them in just one week recently! Also congratulations
to our class woman of the year, Eve, who has lost four and a half
stone since the middle of June - she looks and feels fantastic and is
a real inspiration to the class.
If there are people
out there feeling desperate and self-conscious about themselves due to
being overweight, or even just want to embark on a healthy eating
campaign, they are welcome to join our friendly, helpful class on

There is a Youth
Club for Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils of Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda
every
Wednesday evening from 7 pm until 9pm.
This is a chance
for the pupils to socialise through the medium of Welsh.
They have
football, table tennis, badminton, art, dance mats and pool, and
also go on trips.

GIRLS
HOCKEY TRAINING
A reminder that every Monday
(except holidays) there is a weekly Indoor Hockey Training
Session held at Treorchy & Cwmparc Boys & Girls Club (off Station Road, opposite Treorchy Co-op).
It's aimed at girls between 7
and 15 years old, and runs each Monday at the club between 6 - 7
pm.
Please note the change in
the time, this is due to the coach’s other commitments, if this
causes too much inconvenience to some girls, please let us know and
we will see if there is anything we can do to help.
The hockey is free to club
members and £1 to visitors (this weekly £1 contribution also
allows the girls access to all of the club facilities for the week).
Equipment is provided
(although bring your own shin-pads) and a trained coach delivers the
training.

Girls
aged between 7 and 13 years old who want to learn new things, meet new
friends, or just take part in fun activities are invited to come along
to Treorchy & Cwmparc Boys & Girls Club. Yes,
you don’t have to be a boy to attend this club – girls can attend
too!

and Basketball coaching on a Monday,
and Football Training (under 9s) on
a Tuesday.

DANCING - Ynyswen Welfare Hall is holding a line
dancing class for beginners, starting at 1.30pm on Tuesday afternoons.
All are
welcome to join, just turn up on the day. The established line dancing
Tuesday class will then continue as usual from 2 to 4pm afterwards. The
£1 entrance fee covers the cost of both sessions for the whole
afternoon, with tea and biscuits included – so why not pop along and
have a go.
TEA
DANCES - Ynyswen Welfare Hall holds Modern and
Sequence Dancing at the community hall every Monday afternoon
from 2 until 4pm. The
popular sessions are open to anyone that is interested and all are
welcome to come along and see, or even join in!
