RECOVERED - Local police officers discovered thousands of pounds worth of stolen items during a raid on a house in High Street, Treorchy. Some of the items recovered are mountain bikes, garden swings and slides, tools, cameras, electrical equipment, lights and a samurai sword in a black case. Burglary victims should contact officers on 01443-743609.
JOB LOSSES - The 20 year-old Hitachi television making plant at Hirwaun is set to close before Christmas. 300 jobs were shed there a year ago and the current workforce stands at 174.
THEFT - Sanding tools, a drill and credit cards, were stolen from a house in Kenry Street, Ynyswen while the occupants were asleep. A blue Ford Escort car was also taken from the property.

CHAMPIONS - Treorchy Comprehensive School have won the Homework Club Challenge Quiz at the Rhondda Heritage Park Hotel, hosted by quizmaster Nigel Walker, ex-Welsh rugby international. Other schools competing were from Porth, Ferndale, Ysgol Gyfun y Cymmer, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare and Taff Ely.
LITIGATION - 140 people living near Nantgwyddon landfill site are to sue the previous tip operators for allegedly damaging their health and ruining their quality of life. PATROL
- Railtrack have deployed a helicopter to monitor trespass spots on the
valleys and mainline tracks. South Wales is considered to be amongst the
worst areas in Britain for trespass and vandalism on its railway network.
