AUGUST 2008
In her third and final year of training for a BA (Hons) Degree in Musical Theatre Performance, Laura has just been awarded the Lilian Baylis Award through the Academy. The Award is for the leading student showing the most potential to make a significant contribution to the development of Theatre. She received the Award at the "Old Vic" Theatre in London from none other than Dame Judi Dench. Laura admitted "It was quite daunting meeting Dame Judi because she is so respected in this industry and such a brilliant actress, but it's an experience I will never forget!" Laura began performing while still a pupil at Treorchy Comprehensive School and went on to perform with the Selsig Amateur Operatic Society before moving to London. After graduating in April 2009, Laura hopes to perform in the West End, under her professional name LAURA MANSELL. * * *

The day was filled with fun and good humour, with Porth/Bronwydd ladies emerging the victors. All monies taken on the day were donated to Y Bwthyn, Pontypridd, where international bowler Mair Jones of Cwmparc spent the remaining days of her life in comfort and with total support. Grateful thanks for raffle donations go to the Co-op Treorchy, Merlin Sports, The Pengelli and U-Design - with their generosity we raised £300. Thanks to all. * * *
