CHOIR CELEBRATES 10thANNIVERSARY

Côr Meibion Cwm Rhondda, together with their Musical Director Neil Topping BA(Hons), started the celebration of their 10th Anniversary with a concert in Capel Rhondda, Hopkinstown, in aid of PONT (Pontypridd Overseas Networking Trust).

The choir, formed in March 1999, commence all their concerts with the hymn Cwm Rhondda, which was very appropriate on this occasion as the hymn was actually first performed in Capel Rhondda.

The evening was introduced by Mr. Phil Rickards, who proved to be a very amusing Master of Ceremonies and the choir continued withPan For Nos yn Hir’, ‘Empty Chairs and Empty Tablesand finished the first section with Let the River Flow’.

The first soloist was Angharad Lloyd, who sang two items. The first was her own composition about the poverty in Uganda, during which slides were shown, and the second was ‘God Help the Outcast from Hunchback of Notre Dame. Both items were well received by a very appreciative audience.

The choir then returned to singUnchained Melody’, ‘Sara and As Long as I have Music’.

Michael McGrinder was the next soloist, with ‘On the Street Where you Live from My Fair Lady and ‘Where’er you Walk’, again an excellent performance.

The choir returned to finish off the first half of the programme with Hafan Gobaith’, ‘One Moment in Time and Elvis Presley’s American Trilogy’

There was a raffle held in the interval, with the prizes being Fair Trade items.

The second half began with the choir singing ‘Llanfair’, ‘The Roseand Anthem from Chess.

Leah Peachey was the final soloist of the evening and she gave a very good performance of Hallelujahand Maybe I like it This Way, from the musical Wild Party.

The choir then sang Sosban Fach’, ‘You Raise Me Up andLove Changes Everything, to close their items for the evening.

The concert ended with the audience joining the choir and soloists to sing Bread of Heaven, the English version of Cwm Rhondda, a very apt closure to an excellent concert.  The young soloists, together with the choir, were given a wonderful reception by the audience.

On Friday, May 15, Côr Meibion Cwm Rhondda are performing with Premier Productions and Ton Pentre Junior School choir, ‘ONE DAY MORE 2’, songs from the shows, in Parc and Dare Theatre, Treorchy. Tickets are available from the Box Office on 01443 773112.

On Friday, June 12, there will be a second performance of ‘ONE DAY MORE 2’, at The Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare, again tickets are available from the Box Office on 01685 881188.

The choir together with Premier Productions and Ton Pentre Junior School choir performed ONE DAY MORE at these venues in 2004 and both concerts were sold out, so please buy you tickets early. Tickets can also be obtained from Premier Box Office 0845 2410391.
