GIRLS HOCKEY TRAINING

Every Monday (except holidays) there is a weekly Indoor Hockey Training Session held at Treorchy & Cwmparc Boys & Girls Club (off Station Road , opposite Treorchy Co-op).

It's aimed at girls between 7 and 15 years old, and runs each Monday at the club between 6 - 7 pm.

Please note the change in the time, this is due to the coach’s other commitments, if this causes too much inconvenience to some girls, please let us know and we will see if there is anything we can do to help.

The hockey is free to club members and £1 to visitors (this weekly £1 contribution also allows the girls access to all of the club facilities for the week).

Equipment is provided (although bring your own shin-pads) and a trained coach delivers the training.

For more info, please feel free to pop into the club on a Monday between 6 and 7 pm.

YOUTH CENTRE - Treorchy Youth Centre is situated in Horeb Street , just behind the HSBC Bank on the Stag Square , Treorchy. The opening hours are 6.30pm to 9pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Activities on offer are Basketball, Football, Darts, Table Tennis, Pool, Arts and Crafts, Weight Training, Quizzes, Dance, Cooking, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Record of Achievements, Photography, Open College Network Certificate, Trips, Disco, Residential Experience, Committee Skills, Issue Base Work, Environmental Projects and Netball.

Lauren Holmes, one of the young people who attend the centre says:

“ I have been coming to Treorchy Youth Centre for the last five years and I really enjoy it. I have an excellent relationship with the youth workers and supervisors and have met some new friends. I think people who are looking to have a good time and a laugh should come to Treorchy Youth Centre and try the experience, so I recommend coming to this youth centre.

I am in the middle of my Duke of Edinburgh Award and I have just completed my record of achievements award. I am on the Youth Committee and also represent the Youth Centre on the Rhondda Youth Forum. I have also completed my netball accreditation certificate. So you can see there are plenty of opportunities to do positive things.”

Why not come along and enjoy a free first night trial. If we haven’t got what you are looking for we will try and meet your needs. So come along and join Treorchy Youth Centre and meet some new friends and have an excellent time.

  • NETBALL - On a Wednesday, Rebecca Williams is looking for a netball team to compete in competitions, with a forthcoming summer tournament to look forward to. We need more girls now and, if you are interested, please can you attend training on a Wednesday evening in the Treorchy Youth Centre.

GIRLS CLUB - Girls aged between 8 and 15 years old who want to learn new things, meet new friends, or just take part in fun activities are invited to come along to Treorchy & Cwmparc Boys & Girls Club

Yes, you don’t have to be a boy to attend this club – girls can attend too!

We have a new activity planned at the club, for girls only, ages 8 - 15 years old.

Monday evenings, starting 16th April 2007, Indoor Hockey training.

It's going to be between 5 - 6 pm and its free to club members, and a £1 to visitors.

This weekly £1 contribution also allows the girls complete access to all of the club's facilities for that week.

Equipment will be provided and trained coaches will deliver the training sessions. For more info, please pop into the club which is open Mon - Thurs, 6 - 8 pm.

Plus, for those girls who are interested in other sport, there’s Tennis and Basketball coaching on a Monday, and Football Training (under 9s) on a Tuesday.

Ring the Club on 07866806611 for more details.

Finally, the club desperately needs VOLUNTEERS to help provide supervision, assist with tuck shop duties and generally help out with activities and clearing away.  Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or anyone with just a few hours to spare (even if it’s only once a month!) are invited to please contact the club to discuss how you can help. Tel: 07866806611.

PRESENTATION - Ton-Pentre and Gelli Boys & Girls’ Club held a very successful annual presentation evening at the Ton-Pentre Football Club on Friday 12th May 2005. Over 250 adults and young people attended the event. Player of the year winners were:

  • Under 9 ‘A’ team  -  Cory Shepherd,

  • Under 9 ‘B’ team  -  Jacob Ovendale,

  • Under 11 ‘A’ team  -  Gemma Davies,

  • Under 11 ‘B’ team  -  Alicia Davies,

  • Under 13’s - Josh Lloyd,

  • Under 15’s - Callum Hughes

The Club also runs under 17 and under 19 teams. All of our teams acquitted themselves well in their respective leagues. As well as celebrating the Club’s football success, the evening raised over £1,000 for club funds.

An auction was held for a Football signed by the current Cardiff City squad and a Liverpool F.C. shirt autographed by Ian Rush, also prizes given by local businesses were raffled, our thanks to all who donated. The evening concluded with a disco.

Thanks to the management committee, football managers and club volunteers for their commitment over the season and, of course, to our players and club members, without who we wouldn’t have anything to celebrate.

As always, the club, which is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, needs additional volunteers.

If you could give up a couple of hours per week to help us out, call in at the club, which is located off Dinam Park Avenue, during the evening and ask for Kevin (club leader), or alternatively, during the day ring Dean on 01443 425894 for further information.
