Here's a rather topical offering to Poet's Corner from a local gentleman.

"To the Tune of 'Duw It's Hard' (sorry Max!)"

In our little valley
They closed the Woolworths down,
And the pick n mix is a Wetherspoons pub now.
Empty tills skipped with dust,
Roll to rest amongst the rust.
And the pick n mix is a wetherspoons pub now.

Chorus: 'Cos it's hard, Duw, it's hard
Harder than Brown will ever know.
And it's he must take the blame,
That the banks played us a game.
And the pick n mix is a Wetherspoons pub now.

They say our banks are broken,
Theres a massive public debt.
Our cars are just not selling,
Boy I nearly sat and wept.
But they say it’s a global credit crunch,
Not just in Treorchy,
I’m really sorry butty boy,
That’s no comfort to me.

Chorus: 'Cos it's hard, Duw, it's hard
Harder than Brown will ever know.
And it's he must take the blame,
That the banks played us a game.
And the pick n mix is a Wetherspoons pub now.

Another Pub closed down today,
It’s poured its final drink.
Yes the brewery squeezed it till it died.
It really makes me think.
If they keep on killing all the pubs,
Very, very soon,
The only place you’ll get a drink,
Is in a Wetherspoons.

Chorus: 'Cos it's hard, Duw, it's hard
Harder than Brown will ever know.
And it's he must take the blame,
That the banks played us a game.
And the pick n mix is a Wetherspoons pub now

Aye the pick n mix is a Wetherspoons pub now
