Here's another lovely offering to Poet's Corner from a Rhondda gentleman. 6666666666666666666 "The Rhondda"
I live in the Rhondda, a valley now so green Some say it's the nicest place that they have ever seen
No more mines and coal tips, that made the Rhondda grey People there don't live in caves, like some folk used to say
The myths of miners singing when walking from the mine On films and television it really does look fine
My father was a collier, in the mines he worked for years In the end it killed him, causing us so many tears
Living in the Rhondda you don't really see much hate The kindred spirit is still around, although it's not so great
In such a close community people pass the time of day Not like up in London town where they look the other way
When visiting the Rhondda people get a big surprise Because we are so friendly it opens up their eyes
Some evacuees who came here in nineteen forty two Returned to live in Rhondda because they wanted to
I have lived here all my life and do not want to move Writing down these words for you I've nothing left to prove
So why not make a visit, and come along and see That living in the Rhondda is just the place to be.
