Here's a first offering to Poet's Corner from a Southampton gentleman. 6666666666666666666 "The Housewife's Christmas" Christmas is a-coming with the bustle and the noise The shops are all a-bulging with the presents and the toys. The scarlet coated Santa’s appearing in their grottoes The crackers piled up in the
shops with their quite awful mottoes. I struggle in and out the crowd, my purse is getting thinner I'm wondering, just wondering if there’ll be enough for dinner.
And lots and lots of other things I really should have bought. The carousel that’s turning in the middle of the market Helps to make my head spin--“Oh the car! Where did I park it?” No need to panic, I just thought, I came in on the bus I wish that I could stop myself from making such a fuss. But then on Christmas morning it will really seem worthwhile As the children find their presents, I may even start to smile, To see their wide eyed wonder as they find each shiny toy It’s a world of great excitement for each little girl and boy. And though I’ll be exhausted by the time my work is through I wouldn’t miss a Christmas, and I hope that you won’t too. by George Nicolls, Dibden Purlieu, Southampton 55555555555555555555555555 *Treorchy.net sends many thanks to George for sharing his poem with us - do send us more! and if anyone else would like to contribute to our poet's corner then e-mail your unpublished work to news@Treorchy.net **Treorchy.net reserves the right to illustrate any submissions - copyright of all poetry remains with the authors and should not be reproduced in any form without prior permission. |
