This poem is circulating in an un-authorised and slightly altered version around the Internet - and had been originally sent to Poet's Corner in June 2005 by a Rhondda gentleman. The original author Mrs Valerie Waite has since contacted us and kindly supplied us with the corrections and detailed verification of it's first published authenticity (Daily Mail, Peterborough pages, 2nd July, 2004).

Our thanks to both parties for bringing this delightful poem to our attention. Valerie also informs us that it has since also been set to music!

"The Computer Swallowed Grandma"

The computer swallowed grandma, yes, honestly it's true.

She pressed 'control' and enter, and disappeared from view

It devoured her completely, the thought just made me squirm

She must have caught a virus, or been eaten by a worm

I've searched through the recycle bin, and files of every kind

I've even used the Internet, but nothing could I find

In desperation, I asked Jeeves, my searches to refine

The reply from him was negative, not a thing was found online

So, if inside your 'inbox', my Grandma you should  see

Please Scan, Copy and Paste her

In an e.mail back to me.
