Here's a first offering to Poet's Corner from a Treherbert lady. 6666666666666666666 "Radio Lives On" for my dad Ieuan Ellis. who has been a big inspiration to me, with his love of music and the radio
The wireless sat, on the sideboard you see, it was a special guest, for all to see. it brought the world to our home to inform and educate So when bad news came on the wireless, a discussion took place, we listened in silence. Learning new things by paying attention, using our brains much more than watching t.v. we don't have to mention. for that you don't need an imagination you just sit there and watch, without paying attention.
Every night it would come alive with music and chatter. being old fashioned just didn't matter the big band sound and the Billy Cotton show. for mam bought this for my dad many years ago - when they got married it cost a lot of money you know!
there was always music and laughter the goons, and lots more. My dad and his music my mam and her singing, the joy in our home that music was bringing
then bedtime would come but first the Minstrells show, it's Sunday night but mam would say come on off to bed you go!
the love and security that the wireless brought by us listening together, this love can't be bought. My mam's not here now my dad's alone, but I still go and listen to that wireless at home. by Sharon Morris 55555555555555555555555555 *many thanks to Sharon for sharing her poem with us and if anyone else would like to contribute to our poet's corner then e-mail your unpublished work to news@Treorchy.net **Treorchy.net reserves the right to illustrate any submissions - copyright of all poetry remains with the authors and should not be reproduced in any form without prior permission. |
