Here's a thought-provoking offering to Poet's
Corner from a talented individual aka "Starrider".

"Dan-Y-Fawr"
Placed on a hill like a star in the sky,
Beauty, serene, a joy to the eye.
Nestled within the valley’s gaze,
Set high above the bustling maze.
Tranquil, ever of its own,
Old ones gone now, children grown.
Families united in their lives,
Brothers, sisters, husbands and wives.
Christine and Glyn at number sixteen,
An empty space where once sat fifteen
Jackie lived across the way,
And talked with Christine every day.
Chris and Jason played with toys,
Soon to be men; yet still only boys.
Community spirit, yesteryear’s dream,
A tall willow tree and a slow running stream.
Then THEY came and brought the rain,
Bringing mayhem, pointless pain.
“This must go”,” it cannot stay”,
“We’re here to take it all away”.
Des and Di at fifty-four,
Di had passed some years before.
Des was bemused and made the choice,
The world would have to hear his voice.
Jackie and Christine felt the same,
So they looked for the ones to blame.
Questions asked, no answers found,
All perpetrators gone to ground.
Newspapers, council, local TV,
Came to view the misery.
What’s the reason for this act?
How did you think we would react?
These streets are more than bricks to us,
These are our homes, won’t you discuss
Another way for this to end,
How can we fight without a friend.
Please don’t take away our lives,
Quickly! Before the dozer arrives.
A little girls pet, a favourite to all.
Duckdo quacking from over the wall.
What are they doing to our houses Dad?
Their killing them sweetheart, don’t be sad.
Des said he would rather die,
Than wave his lifelong home good-bye.
He passed away not long before,
The council made Dan-Y-Fawr no more.
They promised benches and a park,
Beautiful scenes; a light in the dark.
Nothing was done; nothing arrived.
They peddled their lies, deceitful, contrived.
Families and friends scattered and lost.
Were the choices worth the cost?
All that’s left is a vacant slope.
No love, no joy, no life, no hope.
