Here's another offering to Poet's Corner from a Treorchy lady. 6666666666666666666 "Behind Closed Doors" A row of small houses beneath rolling hills Each one hiding their sorrows and ills Some ring with laughter of children at play One filled with sorrow as they remember that day. A broken heart when someone is lost We can’t begin to count the cost Of tears shed on an empty bed No one can help, whatever is said. A row of small houses beneath rolling hills Someone sits there staring at pills. Unbearable today the pain in her heart As she says to herself “Why did we part?” Heaven brought us together and gave us a start Now heaven has taken you and broken my heart. A knock on the door, tears wiped away A friend has called, that’s two today. A smiling face as she opens the door No trace of tears she shed before. The pain she felt melts slowly away Sorrow put aside for another day. A row of small houses beneath rolling hills Tears and worry and all over bills. “How can I manage, what can I do? I need food in my cupboard and there’s holes in my shoe. Something must wait, but which will it be If I don’t pay the gas, I can’t make the tea. The boys need new uniforms before next week But if I don’t pay the rent, we’ll be out in the street. I’ve borrowed too much, I can’t borrow more”. Then she cries to herself behind her closed door. Laughter, tears, sorrow and bills In a row of small houses beneath rolling hills. by Mary Ellis 55555555555555555555555555 *Treorchy.net sends many thanks again to Mary. and if anyone else would like to contribute to our poet's corner then e-mail your unpublished work to magazine@Treorchy.net **Treorchy.net reserves the right to illustrate any submissions - copyright of all poetry remains with the authors and should not be reproduced in any form without prior permission. |
