Here's another offering to Poet's Corner from a local lady.

"All in a Day’s Shopping"

I tottered along to Somerfield’s

To celebrate their re - opening day,

Balloons bobbed outside in the warm morning breeze

Whilst a brass band was belting away.

People were swarming everywhere

Fighting to spend all their lolly,

I got belted by a man with a long French loaf

And attacked from behind by a trolley.

After pushing and shoving eventually

I was shunted inside, what a shock,

It was freezing like Poland in winter

And I’d only come out in a frock.

The shoppers, who are normally friendly,

All scowled and complained of the queue,

“I’ve been in here three hours,” one guy cried,

“All I want is a tin of beef stew.”

The assistants were smiling but blue lipped

With goose flesh from their head to their toes,

Feeling threatened by ‘Double Pneumonia’

I turned ‘round and made straight for the doors.

Outside - once again in the sunshine

There were shoppers dishevelled and fraught,

Their condition was caused by the check out

When paying for things that they’d bought.

“It’s that new fangled check out,” one shouted.

“I really can’t take any more,”

Then she frothed at the mouth and her eyes rolled

As she slumped in a heap on the floor.

She recovered.  I went home -  and I waited

‘Till next day when the crowd had receded,

Then I ventured again up to Somerfield

To purchased the goods that I needed.
