Here's another offering to Poet's Corner from a local lady. 6666666666666666666 "A SUCCESSFUL WOMAN AND MOTHER" In Stoney Creek, a Canadian village Where the landscape was green, harsh and wild, Lived a woman called Adelaide Hoodless Who was mourning the death of her child.
The child died through her own lack of knowledge Of good home care and proper hygiene, Adelaide aired her views at a meeting She spoke out and told them of her dream.
Her dream was that girls education should Contain home crafts and practical skills, So they then could go back to their families And protect them from all kinds of ill’s. ‘Twas the year of eighteen eighty seven When the W.I. was first begun All the women attending the meeting ‘Mounted up to one hundred and one. Grouped together the women developed, Spreading right across oceans and sea, If Adelaide Hoodless came back today Oh! What a proud woman she’d be. Her success can’t be measured in money Or in land that is green, harsh and wild, Her success can be measured in courage Triggered off by the death of her child by Anna Brown, Regent Street.
