On
Thursday, December 13,
the Treorchy Senior Citizens Club members met at Oak Tree Hall for their
Annual Christmas Lunch.
Mrs
Pauline Worman welcomed everyone and Mrs Lyndis Elliot was thanked for
donating Christmas decorations for the hall.
The
committee and members were thanked for donating raffle prizes and special
thanks went to Mrs Beryl Jones for organising the Christmas Lunch.
Mrs
Beryl Rowe said grace and, following the lunch, the afternoon concluded
with carol singing.
Members
were accompanied on the keyboard by Councillor Edward Hancock.
The
next meeting was scheduled for January 3, 2008 when Linda & Christine
from the Rest Hotel Porthcawl would be the afternoon’s speakers.
The
senior citizens club meets fortnightly at Oak Tree Hall, which is also
available for hire.

Treorchy
Senior Citizens Club members met at Oak Tree Hall on Thursday,
November 1. The meeting was opened by the chair Mrs Pauline
Worman and the fire drill took place.
Get
well wishes were sent to Mrs Jean Kinsey, who is recovering from an
operation and to Mr Mal Whitticase, who has been admitted to hospital.
Mrs
Eira Richards was thanked for organising an excellent trip to Monmouth and
Ross Labels.
Eira
and Mrs Joyce Davies were thanked for organising the raffle and members
were thanked for providing the raffle prizes.
Mrs
Beryl Jones was thanked for organising the Christmas lunch again this
year.
The
Christmas lunch will take place at Oak Tree Hall at 2pm on Thursday,
December 13. Members who wish to attend please book by contacting a
committee member.
Following
refreshments the Raffle was won by Mrs P Worman and the Bingo by Lil
Richards, Kath Evans and Pat Scane.
The
next meeting will be held on November 15th when the guest
speaker, Wendy Cane will speak about Diabetes.
On
November 29 we will be having a Mince Pie afternoon with speaker Jane
Komar.
The
next coach trip will be to
Worcester
on December 6.

Treorchy
Senior Citizens Club members met at Oak Tree Hall on Thursday,
September 20.
Following
the fire drill Mrs Worman, chairperson, welcomed the members and Mrs Mair
Griffiths, a new member, to the meeting. Everyone
was pleased to see that Councillor Edward Hancock had recovered from his
stay in hospital and Gwyneth Davies was welcomed back after her illness.
Get
well messages were sent to Joan Young who has been admitted to the Royal
Glamorgan hospital and to Mrs Beryl Jones who is making a slow recovery at
home.
Deepest
sympathy was extended to Isobel Sampson on the death of her brother and to
Maude Duncan on the death of her sister.
Mrs
Worman thanked Eira Richards for organising an excellent trip to
Bath
on September 13. She
also thanked Eira and Joyce for organising the raffle on bus one and Pat
Scane for helping to organise the raffle on bus two.
The
afternoon speakers were Rhian and Donna from the organisation
‘Bolder’. Bolder is an
organisation employing fully trained advice workers who help people over
60 to complete and return welfare benefit forms.
Their
service is free of charge in the comfort of your own home and is
completely confidential and independent from all other organisations and
local authorities. Anyone
wishing to use the service please contact the project administrator Rhian
Bartlett on 01443 778783.
Beryl
Rowe, vice chair, thanked Rhian and Donna for all the valuable information
they had provided.
Following
refreshments, the raffle was won by Pauline Worman. The
Bingo was won by Avis Phillips, Olwyn Bobbett and Eira Richards.

Members
met at Oak Tree Hall Treorchy at 2.00pm on Thursday
23rd August.
The
chairperson Mrs Pauline Worman welcomed members and the fire drill took
place.
Mrs
Eira Richards told the members that the Annual coach trip will be on
Thursday 13th September the venue is Bath. Members wishing to book a seat
for the trip; please contact Eira Richards before 30th August. Booked
Tickets can be collected from Oak Tree Hall at 1.30pm on Thursday 6th
September at 1.30pm.
The
afternoon programme continued with an excellent quiz organised by Mrs Anne
Barrett. The winning table was headed by Anne Phillips. Beryl Rowe
thanked Anne for a very entertaining and educational
afternoon.
Following
refreshments the Raffle was won by Margaret Davies. The Bingo by
Anne Phillips, Val Martin and Anne Barrett.
The
next meeting will be on 30th August.
Mrs
Worman announced that the Fête will take place at 2.00pm on 6th September
and is open to members and the public. There will be a New &
Nearly New Stall, A Book St all, A Bric a Brac Stall, Cake Stall and many
other attractions and Bargains. Admission 50p includes cup of tea and
biscuit.

members met at Oak Tree Hall on Thursday, August
9.
Mrs Beryl Rowe, Vice Chairperson, welcomed members and the
fire drill took
place.
Get well messages were extended to Isobel Samson's brother and members
were
pleased to hear that Mrs Glenys Barrett was making a good recovery.
The afternoon's speaker, Mrs
Marian Harrison, the secretary of the Upper
Rhondda 50+ Forum, had come along to invite members to participate in an
afternoon of nostalgia. The afternoon, one of four in
upper
Rhondda
, would be called, "
Memory Lane
."
The date and time is to be decided and will be announced at the next
meeting.
The next meeting will be held on
August 23, when Ann Barrett will test members’ general knowledge with a
Quiz.
Following Refreshments, the Raffle
was won by Mrs Rita Richards. Bingo was won by Trudy Alford,
Marion Evans and Hilda Tucket.
Members will be
pleased to know
that Mrs Rita Richards, who was taken ill during the meeting, has made a
full recovery.

Treorchy Senior Citizens Club
members met at Oak Tree Hall on Thursday, July
12.
The Chairperson Mrs Worman opened
the meeting and the fire drill took place.
Eira informed members that the
next coach trip would be to Evesham on Thursday, August 2.
The guest speaker for the
afternoon was Mr Jim English BSc (hons) MRICS, the Director of Estates. Mr English gave a detailed talk on
how the new hospital at Llwynypia, Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda, had progressed since the work first commenced in November 2005.
Members viewed the projected
artist’s impressions of the interior and exterior of the building and
viewed each stage of the work as it had progressed. Mr English ended by answering
several questions put to him by members.
Mrs Beryl Rowe gave Mr English a
vote of thanks for giving the talk and for clarifying items that had
concerned the members.
Following refreshments, the raffle
was won by Mrs Trudy Alford. The bingo was won by Mrs Olwyn
Bobbet, Mrs Sybil Rees, Mrs Joyce Davies and Mrs Pauline Worman.

Senior Citizens’ Club members met at Oak Tree Hall on Thursday, June
28.
The chairperson Mrs Worman opened the meeting and the fire drill took place.
Get well wishes were conveyed to Gwyneth Davies who is still a
patient in The Royal Glamorgan
Hospital. Members were please
to hear that Lillian Jones had suffered no ill effects from her fall in Tredegar House.
Mrs
Eira Richards was thanked for organising the coach trip to Cwmbran and Tredegar
house on June 20. Eira and Joyce
Davies were thanked for organising the raffle and members for giving
the raffle prizes.
The guest speaker for
the afternoon was Mr Nigel Wheeler. Mr Wheeler is the RCT Service
Director for Street Care. He told members of the progress his team are
making to clean up the environment.
Following refreshments, the raffle was
won by Mrs Josie Elias. The Bingo was won by Mrs Jean Erasmus, Mrs Josie
Elias and Mrs Marion Jones.
The next meeting is on July 12 when Mr Jim
English will give a talk on the New Hospital.

Members of the Treorchy Senior Citizens Club met at Oak Tree Hall on
Thursday, May 31.
Following the fire drill, Pauline Worman introduced the
guest speaker for the afternoon. Meiner Evans ND LL.B (Hons) Pg Dip.
who is a solicitor from Merlin Phillips Solicitors of Pontypridd, gave a
detailed talk on the law relating to the Elderly and Disabled. She
informed members of the changes that are due to take place over the next
twelve months and answered numerous questions put to her by members.
Beryl
Rowe Vice chair gave Meiner a vote of thanks for all the information she
had provided and invited her back at a later date to keep members up to
date with the changes in the law.
Following refreshments, Eira Richards
gave members the details of the coach trip to Tredegar Park
and Cwmbran, which will take place on Wednesday, June 20.
The Raffle was
won by Glenys Harris. Bingo winners were as follows. First hand of bingo went to Eira Richards, the second
to
Gwyneth Harris and the third hand was won by Beryl Jones.
Next meeting
will be at 2pm on June 14. Forthcoming events include the 'Four Just Men
in Concert' on June 14 at 7.15pm.

The
Treorchy Senior Citizens Club members met at Oak Tree Hall at 2pm on
Thursday, May 3, 2007 for their Annual General
Meeting.
The meeting was
opened by the chairperson, Mrs Pauline Worman and the fire drill took
place.
Apologies were received from Mrs Joyce Davies who was attending a
family funeral in Aylesbury.
The Minutes of the 2006 AGM and the Annual
Report was read by the secretary, Anna Brown. The Minutes and Annual
Report were accepted as a true and accurate record.
Councillor Hancock
thanked the secretary for all the work she had done through out the year.
The chairperson thanked Mrs Beryl Jones, the retiring treasurer, for the
work she had done since 2003.
Mr Paul Young, accountant, was thanked for
auditing the club accounts and for his support through out the year.
The
following members were elected to serve on the committee for 2007 - 2008.

Mrs Joyce Davies, Treasurer. Mrs Anna Brown, Secretary. Mrs

Following refreshments, Edwards Hancock
entertained
the members with a food quiz.
The Raffle was won by Margaret Wilkins The
three hands of Bingo were won by Margaret Wilkins, Marion Evans with the
final hand going to Margaret Wilkins and Anna Brown.
Forthcoming events at
Oak Tree Hall were announced as follows. On May 17, Sian Evans of Age
Concern will be the guest speaker. On May 31, we will have Meiner Evans, a
Solicitor specialising in law for older people. On June 14, there will be
an evening of music with "The Four Just Men" an event not
to be missed. The concert commences at 7.15pm and tickets are
£4.00.

the Treorchy Senior Citizens' Club met at Oak Tree Hall on Thursday, April
19.
The Chairperson opened the meeting and
the fire drill took place. Get well wishes were sent to Pam Barker's
daughter, who is recovering from an operation, and Olwen Bobbet's son
Ralph, who is also recovering from an operation. A speedy recovery is
wished to them both.
It was announced that the Upper Rhondda Forum would
be holding their meeting at the hall on Monday, April 23. The
speaker will be Barry Ledburry from Pontypridd and Rhondda NHS Trust.
Beryl Rowe Vice chair asked the members to consider joining the committee.
The AGM will take place on May 3.
Bryn John was the guest for the
afternoon. He provided much hilarity with a musical quiz. Beryl Rowe
gave the vote of thanks.
Following refreshments, the raffle was won by
Josie Williams. The Bingo was won by Margaret Wilkins and Anna Brown, Mrs
Mary Davies, Margaret Davies.
Forthcoming events were announced as the
Annual General Meeting on May 3, A coach trip to Abercrave and Mumbles on
May 10, A quiz with Sian Jones on May 17 and Meinir Jones, Solicitor, will
give a talk on Elderly Client and Community Care Law on May 31 Everyone
welcome.

Senior Citizens Club members met at Oak Tree Hall, Treorchy, on Thursday,
April 5 for their fortnightly meeting.
The Chairperson Mrs Pauline
Worman
opened the meeting at 2.00pm and the fire drill took place. Condolences
were sent to the family of Mary Webb. Joan Young, who has recently been ill, was wished a speedy recovery.
The speaker for the afternoon was Dr
Masoud Ahamadi. He gave a detailed talk on the changes due to take
place in the NHS.
Beryl Rowe gave Dr Ahamadi a vote of thanks.
Following
refreshments, the raffle was won by Jean Pitt. The bingo was won by
Kath Davies, M. Davies and Sybil Rees.
The tickets for the coach trip to
Abercrave and Mumbles on May 10, price £8.00, will be available at
the hall on April 19 at 1.45pm. "The Four Just Men" will be
appearing in concert at the hall on the evening of Thursday, June 14 at
7.15pm. Tickets available at the hall on Thursday, April 19, price £4.00.
Contributions for 2007 - 2008 now due and can be paid at the hall on April
19 at 1.45pm.

Members of the
Treorchy Senior Citizens Club met at Oak Tree Hall on Thursday, March
8.
The Chairperson Mrs Worman opened the meeting. Following the fire
drill Mrs Worman offered condolences to Joyce Davies, committee member, on
the death of her brother Ralph. Condolences
were also offered to the family of Glenys Owen. Glenys was a very
popular and regular Thursday afternoon member of the Senior Citizens'
Club; she will be sadly missed by everyone.
The secretary, Anna Brown,
thanked the members for their cards and kind messages of sympathy received
on the recent, sad lass of her father Richard Beynon.
The guests for the
afternoon were Mal Picken and Jason Davies who were at the Hall to promote
their Heritage Grant, which is funded by the Lottery.
Their project
'Life Divine' is aimed at increasing the understanding of the history of
the Parc and Dare Band and the history, culture and industrial development
of the
Rhondda
Valley.
Their intention is to tell the story through the development of a book,
a film and in designing an exhibition that will involve the people in the
community of
Rhondda
in the hope that they too can contribute with their own recollections and
ideas. The talk was backed up by several slides of historical places of
interest.
Mrs Beryl Rowe gave a vote of thanks.
Following refreshments,
the raffle was won by Councillor Hancock. The Bingo was won by Mrs
Kath Evans, Mrs Beryl Jones and Mrs Josie Ellias.
A coach trip has been
organised for Thursday, May 10. The venue will be Abercrave and Mumbles. Anyone
wishing to travel on the trip, please contact Mrs Eira Richards.
Forthcoming events are as follows - March 22, when Mr Pearce, will be
giving a talk on his life in the cinema. On April 5, Dr Ahamani will talk
on the changes due to take place in the Health Service. On April 19, Bryn
John will provide a musical quiz. Our Annual General Meeting will be held
on May 3.

Thursday, January 25th.
Mrs Warmon welcomed everyone and the fire
drill took place.
The speaker for the afternoon was Suzanne Williams, Police Community
Support
Officer who is based at the Ton Pentre Police station.
Beryl Rowe, vice chair thanked Officer Williams for an impressive talk.
The raffle was won by Councillor Edward Hancock and the bingo winners were
Gwyn Eira Latham, Kath Davies and Nan Price.
Due to the inclement weather on Thursday 8th February, Dr Ahamadi will now
give his talk on 'Changes in the Health Service 'on 5th April.

Treorchy Senior Citizens Club
members met at Oak Tree Hall on Thursday 11th
January.
The Chairperson, Mrs Worman
welcomed members to the first meeting of 2007 and wished everyone A Happy
New Year.
Mrs Trudy Alford was welcomed back following her recent operation and Mrs
Glenys Owen, who was admitted to the Royal
Glamorgan
Hospital
in December,
was wished a speedy recovery.
The guest speaker for the afternoon was Mr Tony Melville. Mr Melville captivated his
audience with the depth of his knowledge of the history of
Rhondda
. His talk covered hundreds of thousands of years, through the Ice Age
right
up to the present day.
Mrs Beryl Rowe, vice chair, gave Mr Melville a vote of thanks.
Refreshments, raffle and bingo followed.
The next meeting is on 25th January when PC Suzanne Williams will be the
guest speaker.
Everyone over 55 years is welcome to come along and spend a pleasant
afternoon amongst friends.
