The Members of Treorchy
Senior Citizens Club met at Oak Tree Hall Treorchy on 16th
December for their Annual Christmas Buffet Lunch.
Special guests for the
afternoon were three members of staff from The Treorchy Co-operative
Supermarket. Mr Mark Evans (Manager), Mr
Rob Wilson (Deputy Manager) and Mr Winford Matthews (Grocery Manager), who
presented the club with a refrigerator, a micro wave oven and a table and
four chairs.
Mrs Worman thanked the
guests and all their staff for their generous donations.
She told the members that this week alone the Co-operative staff
had presented a hamper and a floor standing hair dryer to Ty Ross, 170
selection boxes to Rhondda Special school and Cwmparc school had been
rewarded with a hamper for plates they had produced to decorate the
Supermarket. Llwynypia
hospital had also received a microwave oven.
A Buffet lunch followed
grace, which was said by Mrs Beryl Rowe.
Before the afternoons entertainment commenced, twenty-one members
were lucky winners of the free Christmas Raffle.
Entertainment for the
afternoon included Mr Alf Picken, who delighted everyone with ‘Oh!
Holy Night’ and ‘Walk with Pain in Your Heart’.
Mrs Kath Davies,
accompanied by Mrs Sheila Ellis, gave a splendid performance of
‘Mary’s Child’ and ‘Christmas Night’ and the afternoon concluded
with Sheila accompanying the members in a sing-along to a selection of
Carols.
A
vote of thanks was given to the committee by Mrs Josie Elias.
Thanks to Mrs Kath
Davies, Mrs Sheila Ellis and Mr Alf Pickin for an excellent programme of
entertainment. Thanks to Mrs Beryl Rowe for the table decorations and
everyone who contributed towards the raffle.
Thanks to all the male helpers who are always available to lend a
hand and give support. Finally
thank you ‘Staff and Customers’ of the Treorchy Co-operative.
The Committee would like
to wish everyone ‘A Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2005’.
The next meeting will be
at Oak Tree Hall at 2.00pm on Thursday 13th January.

On Thursday
2nd December, Treorchy Senior Citizens held their
fortnightly meeting at Oak Tree Hall.
Following the usual fire drill Mrs Worman informed the members of
the new Health and Safety Laws that have to be adhered to at all meetings.
Get well messages were
sent to Beryl Jones, treasurer, who is still recovering from an operation.
Forthcoming events. 16th
December - Christmas Buffet lunch
will take place at 2.00pm. 30th December
- NO MEETING.
The
first meeting of 2005 will take place on 13th January.
When the afternoon’s
business was concluded Mrs Worman welcomed Mrs Maureen Carpenter, who gave
an excellent demonstration on flower arranging.
The theme was centrepieces for the Christmas table.
Refreshments were
followed by three games of Bingo and a raffle.

At 2.00pm on Thursday
18th November, the Treorchy Senior Citizens Club
members met at Oak Tree Hall for their fortnightly meeting. Mrs
Eira Richards was thanked for organising an excellent trip to Bath on 11th
November.
After the afternoon’s business was
concluded, Mrs Worman introduced the afternoon’s guest Mrs Brenda Rowe. Mrs Rowe gave a demonstration on making Christmas bows.
This was followed by refreshments and three
games of bingo. Winners were
1. Josie Elias and Brenda Rowe. 2. Megan Crosby and Brenda Rowe.
3. Lyndis Elliot. The
Raffle was won by Gwyn Eira Latham.
Members are reminded that the Christmas
buffet will take place on 16th December.
The deadline date to secure a ticket is December 2nd.
Many thanks to Brenda Rowe for the
demonstration, and to the tea ladies who stood in for Glenys, Avis and
Pat.
The Next Meeting is December 2nd
when a demonstration on flower arranging will take place.

Members met at Oak Tree
hall at 2.00pm on Thursday 4th
November. Mrs
Worman welcomed two new members Mrs Sybil Rees and Mrs Pam Barker.
Lil and Trudy were
welcomed back after recovering from their illnesses and the latest update
on the health of Joyce Davies and Beryl Jones is that they are steadily
improving. Emma was
congratulated on becoming a great grandmother.
After refreshments were
served, four games of bingo were won by 1 - Jean Toghill, 2
- Pauline Worman and Olwyn Bobbett, 3 - Kath Davies, 4 - Kath Davies.
The raffle was won by
Judith James.
Next
meeting is at 2.00pm on Thursday 18th November with a
demonstration on Making Christmas Bows.

Treorchy Senior Citizens
Club members met at Oak Tree Hall Treorchy at 2.00pm on Thursday
21st October.
Mrs Pauline Worman opened
the meeting and welcomed Mrs Judith James as a new co-opted member to the
committee. Following the
normal fire drill procedure the minutes were read adopted and signed.
Get well wishes were sent
to Beryl Jones, treasurer, Joyce Davies committee member and Trudy Alford
who had recently been in hospital. All
were wished a speedy recovery.
Mrs Worman welcomed back
Glenys who had been ill and Dorothy who was still recovering from a recent
accident.
Bath Trip -
November 11th 2004. Mrs Eira Richards told the members that 55
people were expected to travel on the trip to Bath.
There was also a reserve list of people who wished to travel on the
bus should there be cancellations.
Christmas Buffet.
A list had been posted on the notice board giving details of the Christmas
Buffet lunch. The cost of the
Lunch is £4.00. Committee
members would take bus and Buffet money during the afternoon session.
Treorchy Senior
Citizens Web Site. The Treorchy Senior Citizens Web Site is now up and
running. Thanks were sent to
Rosemarie Knape for doing an excellent job in setting up the pages.
When the afternoon’s
business had been completed and refreshments served, Mrs Worman thanked
members for their generous contributions to the afternoons Harvest
Festival Service. She also
thanked Mrs Beryl Rowe for organising an excellent display of the produce
brought by the members.
The service conducted by
Mrs Beryl Rowe included the story of Noah and a moving account of a Jewish
lady who had been in held at a German Concentration Camp.
The service ended with the singing of
“All Things Bright and Beautiful”.
The afternoon concluded
with the usual three games of Bingo won by Mrs Dorothy Picken, Mrs Iris
Oram and Mrs Jean Erasmus. The
raffle was won by Mrs Kath Davies.
Next
Meeting November 4th will be Flower Arranging by Nicola.

The members met at Oak Tree Hall on Thursday
7th October for their fortnightly afternoon of
social activities.
After Mrs Worman, chairperson opened the
meeting and carried out the usual fire drill duties; she welcomed Mrs Mair
Latcham and Mrs Florence Brown who had been invited along as quests for
the afternoon.
Get well messages were sent to, Mrs Betty
Jones, Mrs Dorothy Morgan, Mrs Lil Richards and two Committee members Mrs
Beryl Jones and Mrs Joyce Davies who had been hospitalised.
A speedy recovery was wished to all.
Mrs Judith James was welcomed as a co-opted
member onto the committee and she was thanked for organising a very
successful Bring and Buy sale on 23rd September.
The afternoon’s entertainment, “Name
that Tune” with Mr Ron Watkins at the keyboard proved to be a great
success. Kath Davies’s team won the prize for naming forty-three tunes
correctly. Thanks are extended to Mr Watkins for a very enjoyable
afternoon.
During the interval, refreshments were
served. Three games of Bingo
followed; winners were Gwyneira Lawthom, Kath Davies and Maude Duncan. The raffle was won by Mrs Picken.

September, Treorchy
Senior Citizens held their fortnightly meeting at Oak Tree Hall.

Refreshments were followed by a very successful
‘Bring and Buy Sale’ organised by Mrs Judith James.
The afternoon ended with the usual Raffle, which was
won by Mrs Trudy Alford.
The committee would like to thank everyone who
donated items for the sale and the raffle.
A big thank you also to Judith for organising the sale,
and her helpers on the stall for helping to make the afternoon a success.

On Thursday
9th September, Treorchy Senior Citizens Club held
their first open Social event with an afternoon Tea Dance at Oak Tree Hall
Treorchy. The M.C. for the afternoon Mrs Vera Williams provided an
excellent selection of music and Bernice and Glan led the floor
demonstrating the individual dances.
During the interval, a buffet, provided by
members, was followed by Bingo and a Raffle. The
bingo winners were, Mrs Isobel Sampson, Mrs Doreen Jackson and Mrs Dorothy
Picken and the raffle was won by, Maria Jones, Glenys Jones and Mal
Toghill.
The committee would like to thank Mrs Vera
Williams and Bernice and Glan for their invaluable expertise. Thank you also to members who contributed to the excellent
buffet, the raffle prizes, and thank you Glenys Hathaway, Avis Phillips,
Pat Scane and Jean Toghill for supplying an endless flow of hot tea and
coffee.
Finally, thank you everyone for making the
afternoon a success.

At Oak Tree Hall on Thursday
26th August members enjoyed a demonstration on
corsage making by Mrs Joyce Davies. Thank
you Joyce for donating three corsages for the afternoons Raffle prizes.
The lucky winners were, Mrs
Betty Jones, Mrs Della Edwards and Mrs Glenys Harris. The Bingo which followed the refreshments were won By Mrs A.
Brown, Mrs B. Jones and Mrs Olwyn Bobbet.
Future events- “A Tea Dance” with light
refreshments will be held at Oak Tree Hall at
2.00pm on Thursday 9th September.
Tickets £1.00 are available by ringing 776681 or
you can pay at the door. The
afternoon will also contain the usual three games of Bingo.

On Monday
12th July, members and friends of Treorchy Senior
Citizens Club travelled to Cheltenham and Bourton on the Water for their
annual coach outing.
Thanks to the
excellent organising skills of Mrs Eira Richards; the day proved to be
very successful. Thanks are extended to Mrs Joyce Davies who, with the help of
Eira, Beryl Jones and Pat Scane organised the raffle. A big thank you,
from the committee, to everyone who supported.
Club Meetings are
now held again at Oak Tree Hall on a regular basis and everyone over the
age of 55 years, male or female, is welcome to join the oldest swingers in
town for an afternoon of entertainment, refreshments and Bingo.
Following the
recent repairs that have been carried out at the Hall; the committee are
pleased to inform the public that Oak Tree Hall is now available for hire.

On the 16th
June Anita Morgan of BBC Wales recorded her radio programme
‘That’s How it Was,’ at Oak Tree Hall, Cemetery Road, Treorchy where
members of the Senior Citizens Club were invited along to relate memories
of their childhood.
The evening was filled with several amusing
stories and both Anita and the Club Members had an evening to remember. The
programme will be broadcast on BBC Radio Wales on Sunday 18th July.
This year’s Annual Coach trip will take
place on Monday 12th July when members and friends will travel
to Cheltenham and Bourton on the Water. The
coaches will leave Oak Tree Hall at 9.00am.
