Treorchy Senior
Citizens’ Club members met at 2pm on
Thursday, March
19.
Mrs Pauline Worman
opened the meeting at Oak Tree Hall and the fire drill took place.
Mrs Worman congratulated
Julie Hopkins on the birth of her new grandchild.
Get well wishes were
sent to committee member, Mrs Olwyn Bobbett, who is undergoing a hip
operation.
Get well wishes were
also sent to Mrs Maureen Williams who is a patient at the Royal Glamorgan
hospital.
Members were pleased to
see Gwyn Eira Lawthom at the meeting and to hear that her husband Richie
is now home from hospital.
Thanks were sent to
Louise Stenstone of Community Arts at Park and Dare Theatre for the Mosaic
workshop she held at the hall on March 12. Everyone who attended had an
enjoyable afternoon. Each person produced a mosaic item that was
displayed in the Marquee in Treorchy during the week ending March 21.
Mrs Beryl Rowe gave
members a report on the Mosaic display.
Members were told of
Tesco’s intention to build a new environmental store at Treorchy.
Tesco announced that
they will be holding a full public consultation with the local community,
at Oak Tree Hall, on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 March, so that all
community issues can be addressed. Members were urged to make an effort
to attend to put their views forward.
Mrs Eira Richards
announced that money for the coach trip to Porthcawl and McArthur Glen on
March 26 was now due.
Due to the speaker
failing to arrive, three games of bingo were played.
Winners were Eirwen
Savage; Nan Price; Joyce Davies and Pauline Worman.
Following refreshments,
the raffle was won by Mrs Olwyn Milward.
The second round of
bingo was won by Beryl Jones; Jose Williams and Joyce Martin.
The next meeting will be
on Thursday, April 2, when Councillor Edward Hancock will be organising a
codeword afternoon.
A Poems and Pints
Evening will take place at the hall on Thursday, May 21.
Will all members please note that the AGM will take place at 2pm at Oak
Tree Hall on Thursday, May 14, 2009.

Mrs
Pauline Worman opened the meeting at Oak Tree Hall and the fire drill took
place.
Mrs
Lillian Jones was welcomed back following the death of her husband.
Members were pleased to hear that Pat and Alan Wright’s daughter, Judith,
is making good progress following her operation.
Members were also pleased to hear that Ritchie Lawthom, Gwyn Eira’s
husband, is due home following his stay in hospital.
Everyone was reminded of the Mosaic workshop that is due to take place at
the hall at 2pm on March 12.
The
afternoon’s entertainment was provided by Mrs Pauline Worman.
Following refreshments, the raffle was won by Mrs Lil Richards.
The
bingo was won by Mrs Mary Jones, Councillor Edward Hancock and Margaret
Wilkins.
The
next meeting will be on Thursday, March 19, at 2pm, when the speaker will
be Gwyneth Poacher from the Sandville Help Centre.
Tickets will soon be available for a ‘Poems and Pints Evening’ on May 21.

Beryl Rowe, vice chair, opened the meeting and the fire drill took place.
Condolences were sent to Isobel Sampson and her family following the death
of her husband Peter.
Brian Brown was thanked for his continued help at the hall.
Members were reminded of the Mosaic workshop that will take place at the
hall at 2pm on Thursday, March 12. The workshop is free and is open to
everyone. Anyone interested please contact the secretary.
The
afternoon guest speaker was Sian Thomas from Digital UK.
Sian
gave an in depth talk on the digital switch over due to take place in
Treorchy in March 2010.
Beryl Rowe thanked the speaker for the information she had given and
enlightening everyone by explaining what to expect when the switch over
occurs next year.
Following refreshments, the raffle was won by Trudy Alford.
The
bingo was won by Lil Richards and Jose Elias.
The
next meeting will be on Thursday, March 5.

Get
well wishes were sent to Peter Sampson and Olwyn Millward’s husband who
are both patients in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. Members were pleased to
hear that Jean Kinsey’s husband had been discharged from hospital and is
recovering at home.
Get
well wishes were sent to Judith, Pat Wright’s daughter and Gwyneth
Harris’s daughter, who are both recovering from major surgery.
Condolences were offered to Jose Williams on the death of her brother in
law Jeff.
Birthday wishes were given to Councillor Edward Hancock who celebrated his
birthday on February 4.
Members were asked if they were interested in attending a workshop to
learn the art of making mosaic items. Anyone interested please
contact the secretary.
The
afternoon guest was Chris King who invited members to participate in a
session of the ancient Chinese acupuncture system. Thanks were conveyed to
Chris by the secretary.
Following refreshments, the raffle was won by Kath Davies. The bingo was
won by Barbara Hickerton, Anna Brown and Councillor Edward Hancock.
Next
meeting will be on Thursday, February 19, when Sian Thomas will be giving
a talk on “The Digital Switch Over”.

January 22, when Mrs Pauline
Worman welcomed members to Oak Tree Hall and the fire drill took place.
Get well wishes were extended to Peter
Sampson, Don Worman and to Olwen Milward’s husband who is a patient at the
Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
Condolences were sent to Hilda Tucker and
Marian Jones on the death of their brother in law.
Birthday greetings were sent to Dorothy Picken
who had celebrated her birthday on Tuesday, January 20 and also to Pat
Scane, who would be celebrating her 70th birthday on Friday,
January 23.
It was announced that Treorchy Junior Band
will be competing in a competition held in The Branwen Hall on Tuesday,
January 27 and anyone wishing to go on the coach could get details from
Joyce Davies.
It was also announced that there is bingo held
at the Phoenix in Ton Pentre on Monday afternoons.
The speaker for the afternoon was The Older
Peoples’ Champion, Councillor Mike Forey. He gave an Interesting and
informative talk and handed out booklets containing invaluable information
for the elderly.
Mrs Beryl Rowe gave Councillor Forey a vote of
thanks.
Following refreshments the raffle was won by
Sheila White.
The bingo was won by Jose Elias, Sheila White,
Margaret Wilkins and Glenys Harris.
The next meeting will be on Thursday, February
5, when there will be a demonstration on acupuncture by Chris King.

Treorchy Senior
Citizens’ Club members met on at Oak Tree Hall on
Thursday, January 8,
when Mrs Pauline Worman, chairperson, welcomed members to the first
meeting of 2009.
Everyone was wished a
“Happy and Healthy New Year” and the fire drill took place.
It
was announced that there was a change to the usual agenda because the
guest speaker had to leave at 2.45pm.
The
speaker for the afternoon was Tracy Pritchard, who demonstrated the art of
scrap booking.
Tracy told members of the popularity of scrap booking and she showed items
that she had previously made.
During the talk the photographer from the Rhondda Leader arrived to take
photographs of the newly decorated hall.
Following refreshments two new members, Anita Bounds and Marion Jones were
welcomed.
Mrs
Worman said she was pleased to see Della and Olwyn at the meeting.
Della had previously fallen and was suffering from broken ribs, and Olwen
Milward had been absent because her husband had been admitted to
hospital. He was wished a speedy recovery.
Get
well wishes were also sent to Dorothy Picken.
A
letter was read giving news of Joan Young, a past member of the club who
had moved to be near her daughter. She was wished well.
The
next meeting is at 2.00pm on Thursday, January 22, when The Older Peoples
Champion Councillor Forey will be the guest speaker.
This
is an opportunity for members to put questions and their points of view
forward, so questions please!
Concern was expressed about the closure of the Treorchy tipping/amenity
site. It is feared that without the site, fly tipping will occur.
Petitions are available for signing.
