AUGUST
2007
Treorchy
WI’s annual outing this year was a ‘Mystery Trip’.
The weather was perfect and the
trip was very well-organised, with members being greeted with a very
welcome bottle of water on what was to be one of our rare hot summer days.
Marian and Anita were the
organisers of the trip and members were asked to chose a place name out of
the ‘hat’, and if this proved to be the destination the winner would
have a prize.
A bag of wrapped chocolates was
then handed around the coach and three lucky winners found a raffle prize
ticket hidden in the wrapping.
The coach then stopped for a
welcome break at the Sanders Garden Centre, bear Burnham on Sea. We enjoyed browsing around the
Centre and having a very enjoyable snack.
Back on the coach the guessing
game began about the whereabouts of our destination. Could it be Hampton Court, or perhaps, Ross-on-Wye?
Eventually the bus arrived at a
crossroad with Sidmouth to the left and Exmouth to the right.
Finally we arrived in the pretty
resort of Exmouth.
Our President, Mrs Pauline Worman,
thanked Marian and Anita for a most enjoyable day trip, and this was
echoed by all on the coach.
JULY
2007
Treorchy WI President Mrs Pauline
Worman welcomed members to the meeting.
Milwyn Pearce, our Vice President,
was thanked for taking the minutes of the last two WI meetings in the
absence of the Secretary.

Esme Holmes thanking members for their kind messages of sympathy in the
sad loss of her dear husband Randall.

the forthcoming mystery trip on August 9.
The coach will be leaving Tynewydd
at 8.10am.
The trip will be a fun day out and
it is hoped that all members will enjoy it.
Our President thanked Mr Bryn John
for bringing along his amplifier and equipment to the last meeting.
Members are reminded that the
Gwyneth Jarman Competition this year is a watercolour landscape painting
of a summer scene, size A4.
A letter has been received from Ty
Hafan regarding their Butterfly Appeal.
It was unanimously agreed that a
collection box be available to those members wishing to contribute to this
appeal.
The WI Choir gave an enjoyable
concert in Hope Chapel for Christian Aid.
The Choir’s next venue was the
Garden City Women’s Guild, Gilfach Goch, who was, as always, a very
appreciative and lively audience.
Our soloists were Kath Davies and
Glenys Nash, with Kath Evans giving a very humorous monologue.
The Choir’s accompanist, Sioned,
is marrying Alyn in August, so we send them our love and best wishes for
the future.
The Kitchen Band has been very
busy entertaining in the Homes for the Aged.

rehearsing for forthcoming concerts.

speaker, Sophira Shannon.
Sophira gave an interesting talk
about the origins of authentic belly danding.
Her form of dancing is called
Habiba Fusion, which helps in people’s well being.
Sophira then gave a wonderful
demonstration of the habiba dance, which was very graceful and spell
binding.
It was a most enjoyable evening.
Christine Jones thanked Sophira
for brightening up our evening with her graceful dancing, and for giving
us an interesting insight into the art of belly dancing.
Glenys Hathway, Pat Williams and
Judith James were the raffle winners.

Worman welcomed members to the meeting.
A big thank you to all those who
had taken part in the recent Eisteddfod - with the written work,

Congratulations to you all.
Once again we won the shield and
it is credit to all those who gave up their time with rehearsals – Mary
with the Choir, Anita with the Kitchen Band, Margaret Davies with the
Choral Speaking, the Performing Arts Group, Angela who taught us the dance
and Margaret, Anna and Ann who worked hard with the costumes and the line
dance.
The Kitchen Band has been busy
over the Easter period with concerts at Porth Nursing Home and also at Ty
Ross.
The Choir will be giving a concert
in Hermon Chapel on April 24, the proceeds of which will be donated to
Christian Aid.
They will also be giving a concert
in Hope Chapel, Gelli, on May 25.
It was with deep regret that
members heard the sad news of Gwenda Vincent and Mary Webb. Both were
loyal members of our WI, and Mary a devoted member of our WI Choir. They
will both be sadly missed.
The date of the August Mystery
Trip has been altered from the 2nd to the 9th
August. A deposit of £5 will be required next month. The coach will be

Oak Tree Hall. As this is a Resolution meeting and there is only one
resolution to be discussed, “To stop closure of community hospitals,
which provide essential services to local people”, the rest of the
evening will be a social one with bingo and tea and biscuits.
Barbara Phillips, Christine Jones
and Ellen Hughes were the raffle winners.
