Treorchy Women's Institute - Kitchen Band

Treorchy Women's Institute Kitchen Band - who appear opposite in their latest guise - featuring their musical instruments now fashioned from everyday bathroom items!

The ladies are pictured wearing their electric blue pyjama costumes - complete with toothpaste tube hats!

They took 1st place again this year at the Women's Institute Eisteddfod held at Port Talbot in March.

Well Done Ladies!

The Treorchy WI Kitchen Band was extremely busy over the summer of 2002 - with concerts throughout the valleys and beyond, from Mother’s Union suppers, Arthritis Club dinners, Senior Citizen’s Day Centres - to Nursing & Residential Homes.

The ladies above are in their red and blue "Showstopper" outfits worn at Nazareth House, Williamstown where an excellent afternoon’s entertainment was enjoyed in August. The audience participation was wonderful, with a number of senior citizens taking to their feet to dance an impromptu "Can-Can" in the aisles.

The band are currently rehearsing for their new Christmas Show and regularly update programmes & costumes - as variety is a must for both audience and players.

They meet each concert performance as a challenge & continually improve standards, providing great delight for their audiences.

A number of shows are planned in the run-up to Christmas, beginning with a show at the Pentre Legion Club for the 1st ever Christmas Dinner for Pentre Senior Citizens on Nov 27th and the band really has busy time ahead performing more shows for the elderly.

However - anyone interested in booking the Kitchen Band for a show in the New Year, is welcome to phone Mrs. Bound on 01443-772214. Shows are free & if their audiences still appreciate the band's efforts then the ladies are happy to continue.

As the band are now on the Internet - they never know where they will be asked to perform. The lasies' current chant is "Next stop - Las Vegas!" - wishful thinking of course!

The enthusiastic ladies practice regularly, enjoy themselves and generally have a lot of fun together - sending their thanks to Mike, Denise & committee at Treorchy Business Men's Club.

All the ladies wish everyone they've met at concerts a Very Happy Christmas and look forward to making new friends in the New Year.

The Kitchen Band are in great demand giving very enjoyable concerts to the local Residential Homes and Centres for the Aged.

The Band has proved so popular locally that they now are asked to give concerts in venues outside the local area.

Here they are -

Over the Christmas 2001 period, the Treorchy WI Kitchen Band has performed for the elderly in our community.

The photograph on the left shows some of the ladies of the band dressed in one of their glittering costumes - which their audiences love to see.

The “kitchen band” thoroughly delighted the residents, by playing melodies of their era on everyday kitchen items – and their audiences were able to participate in the concerts, by singing along or clapping to the well-known tunes.

The band has already been asked to perform three concerts in the New Year. The first will be at St. David’s Court, Pontyclun.

Originally the band was formed for a WI Eisteddfod - with the ladies never having any idea of their further role as entertainers at residential homes and local hospitals.

However, with the shows being so appreciated - and with further invites coming in – they have a great incentive to carry on performing!
