Treorchy Comprehensive School Band Tours

SCHOOL BAND ITALIAN TOUR

During the summer holiday, the Treorchy Comprehensive School Brass Band travelled to Italy, having been invited to participate in the 2002 Club Europe Italian Youth Band Festival, the only Welsh Brass Youth Band to do so.

They admirably approached a busy schedule with a high standard of performance, and again proved worthy ambassadors for the school.

Despite the long, 28hour journey to Sanremo, the Band immediately prepared to travel to Imperia for the opening of the Ligurian Festival.

In the week that followed they travelled to various places along the French / Italian Riviera, with outdoor performances in San Lorenzo and Pieve di Teco particularly well received.

The Band also travelled inland to the picturesque town of Dolceacqua for their final concert programme, and it was in this venue that Yascha Mounk, the Band’s tour manager, chose to acknowledge Ieuan Morgan’s retirement and his 49 years of dedication to the Band.

Dolceacqua was also the venue for a Massed Band Festival where Treorchy band members eagerly joined four English Youth Bands for a programme of difficult music conducted by Robert Childs.

However, as the temperatures soared there was some time for recreation together.

This consisted of either sight seeing, dining in restaurants, or relaxing on the beautiful beach so conveniently placed outside their Hotel La Brise.

Music teacher Debbie Hosking of Treorchy Comprehensive School, who accompanied the Band on its Italian tour, is proud to report that, “a good time was had by all”!

She is now looking forward to continuing the success of the School’s Brass Band when she assumes this additional responsibility from September.
