Treorchy Comprehensive School Band

SCHOOL BAND'S NEW DIRECTOR

Miss Debbie Hosking of Pentre, continues as a music teacher at the school & from September will succeed Ieuan as Director of Treorchy Comprehensive School Band.

A former Treorchy pupil & band member herself, she is aware of the commitment of musicianship, having represented the school at both County & National level on many occasions.

Miss Hosking gained the distinction of MMus (Perf), after graduating from the University of Wales with an honours degree in Music, & also holds the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music diploma.

IEUAN MORGAN MBE hands over Treorchy Comprehensive School Band after 49 years to successor and former band member Miss Debbie Hosking.

Specialising on the trumpet, she has a continual involvement in various prestigious events & is currently Musical Director of Rhondda Theatre Group & has founded Quintessence Welsh Brass - a professional quintet with a growing reputation.

She has also performed with the School Band in recent concert programmes, and participated as a member of staff on their tour of Italy this summer.

Recently forming a Wind Band at the school, she plans to continue to improve standards and develop Music Technology, having a personal interest in composition.

Her ambition to improve individual performance at the school is essential for GCSE / AS / A Level examinations, & the emphasis on ABRSM examination will help pupils reach higher levels of performance.

Increasing Band numbers will be a priority. New pupils entering the school in Sept. will be encouraged to Brass lessons, ultimately to join the renown School Band.

A busy schedule of events is planned to celebrate its 50th Jubilee in Sept 2003 and this year’s Annual School Concert at the Park & Dare Theatre on Nov 19th - will be Treorchy Comprehensive School Band’s first performance with a new conductor.
