The Rhondda Civic Society is a voluntary organisation, which has raised funds to erect commemorative plaques in honour of Rhondda's most famous people. The society has also worked with the Penrhys Parnership for the restoration works at the shrine of St. Mary's Well, Penrhys, undertaken a tree-planting scheme along the local by-pass, and named the route "Collier's Way". Also funding the cleaning of the fountain outside St. Peter's Church in Pentre, undoubtedly their most prestigious undertaking to date, has been the commissioning and erection of the Rhondda's commemorative statue - depicting a miner, wife and child - which is sited at Llwynypia. Chairman - Mr Wayne Thomas, 15 Druid’s Close, Treorchy. Tel: 01443 776004.
