RICHARDS Hi, Morgan Richards was my grandfather, he was born in Cardiganshire 1873 and died at 3, Tallis Road, Cwmparc on February 5th 1936. On the record of his interment at Treorchy there are two relatives named with the same address. My father was his second son Abraham. I would really appreciate some contact with any remaining family or their descendants, they may be able to resolve some questions that remain unanswered. Please get in touch, I've run out of options in Cardiganshire, Maureen (nee Richards) * * * * * 6th August 2008 - THIS MESSAGE IS FOR KENT ROACH A cousin forwarded to me a message from you wanting to know about the Roach family in Treorchy. The reason for this message is that my name is Bob Roach and both my brother John and I are from Gelli. I am sure that there is no direct relationship between us as my father (who naturally bore the surname Roach) came from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In the 1920's he met my mother in London when she was there as a young girl in Service. She was born of the Childs family in Treherbert. As I and my brother John are the only males in the Roach family of that era I doubt that there is any connection with your family. Getting to the subject in hand however, when I was evacuated to the Rhondda from London at the height of the blitz I stayed with my grandparents in Gelli. John and my mother had remained in London at that time. One night there was an airraid in the Rhondda and a bomb hit the Library in Ystrad. As a child under the stairs (no shelters then) with my grandfather, someone came into the house and said that a Mrs Roach had been killed in the library. Naturally, being only 8 years of age I was convinced it was my mother, but I later got a letter from my mother saying that she was not the person concerned. Whether the poor lady was in some way related to you I have no idea, but her's is the only reference to the name that I can recall. (She may not even have spelt it like ours!) There are member of the Childs family still living in the Rhondda I believe who may recall this. My brother and I left the Rhondda to do our National Service and both later joined the Metropolitan Police in London. We both retired from the CID with a bit of rank and now live in Norfolk in retirement. I'm afraid that is all I can tell you!
