December 2008 Brinley Edwards died on 29 January 2008. The Times on 04 December 2008 reports that The Treasury Solicitor would like to trace any relatives. * * * 9th September 2008 I am trying to find information on my husband's family. His name is Thomas John Evans, and comes from Eileen Place in Tynewydd. He has a sister called Mary Ann. His dad was also called Thomas John Evans and his mum was Valerie Doreen Jones before she married. If anyone could let me have some more info on the family I would be so grateful. Thanks so much, Vikki Evans. 2nd March 2008 Hello, I am emailing you from the USA. My father was from Treorchy. His name was Merville Evans, he died 5 years ago. He would be 84 years old now. He lived at 28 Tynybedw Street. His father was Thomas Evans, mother was Ester Evans. He had two brothers, Edward who lives in Wheatley, Oxforshire, and David Evans who still lives in Treorchy. Merville left Treorchy in 1943 when he went into the army, then he moved to Oswestry, Shropshire, and in 1959 we moved to USA. It would really be nice if someone remembered him. If anyone knew him please email me. Thank you. Any photos would also be very much appreciated. To all the staff,
A few months ago I emailed you looking for anyone who might know my dad.
Finally I received an email from Ian Guilliford, who turns out to be a second cousin. He sent me his mum's address, and I will drop her a line. I want to thank you for publishing my email in the newspaper.
Sincerely, Cindy Broberg. * * * * *
I attach a clipping from the Pontypridd Herald Nov 1893 concerning the death of my great grandfather John Edwards (known as ‘Will’), Plumber & Tinsmith, who was living at 26 Howard St , Treorchy.
Although the newspaper made no mention of it, my mother tells me
that foul play was suspected – she said that he was ‘pushed over the
mountain’. John Edwards had 5 sons, 3 of whom, Fred, Jack & Dai, worked as miners, but were also ‘mountain fighters’.
Fred ‘Soldier’ Edwards of
Penrhiwceibr was said to be a champion. I
realise that I’m unlikely to find specific information, but if readers
of your site have any general background information to this story or any
knowledge of ‘mountain fighting’ in the Rhondda/Cynon Valley area, I
would be very interested to hear from them. Regards John Wilce
