Ystradyfodwg Art Society's Coral Anniversary was celebrated at their 35th Annual Exhibition in Park & Dare Lesser Hall from 22 - 26th June 2004.
35 years does seem a long time, and the remaining founder members are few, but loyal still.
Little did they think the society would still be thriving in 2004 with its aims still intact and having almost reached their maximum number of members allowed to join the present society.
The society is limited by space available at Abergorki Hall - 60 members is all that can be accommodated. However, by holding four classes a week, they are able to fit everyone in.
The artists use all types of medium to create their paintings, with watercolour being a strong favourite, but acrylics, oils and pastels are also favoured.
Drawing with pencil, pen, charcoal & crayon are the methods used by some artists, but almost anything that can be used for the purpose - will indeed be used.
Painting on silk has become one of the latest favoured mediums and the effects are truly beautiful.
The subjects of the painting are even more varied, from landscapes to interiors, animals to humans, flowers, trees, water, in fact anything is a subject for someone to paint and they do endeavour to tackle it all.
Some members have gone further than the amateur artist ranks, with society president Bill Wheeler having his first book on painting coming out soon. These books have a world-wide market and are often used as teaching aids, besides being beautiful books in their own right. We all wish Bill good luck, with more to follow.
Other members have achieved successes by having paintings hung all over the world. Often they are given as gifts to remind someone of home and usually treasured much more than a photo of the same area.
Painters come from all walks of life -teachers, policemen, factory & hospital workers, draughtsmen, cooks, cleaners & bottle-washers - they all take part and it’s good fun.
Come & join us at the Abergorki Hall - Mon & Thur 10am - 12 and Mon & Wed 7-9pm. You never know until you try!
