On
Monday, May 15, the Ystradyfodwg Art Society welcomed the well-known
English artist, Terry Harrison, to our studio at the Abergorki Hall, Bute
Street, Treorchy. His demonstration began just after 7pm and continued until 9pm with a short break for tea and biscuits. Terry’s use of some special brushes, which he had helped develop, was amazing to watch. His techniques for painting foliage, water and skies was so simple, but like everything that looks easy it takes years of practice to achieve. Terry's banter as he painted was funny but all his jokes were like old friends - he'll have to get a new scriptwriter!
At the close the audience showed its appreciation and we were rewarded by Terry signing the finished painting and presenting it to the Society for to be raffled during our Annual Exhibition (which takes place from the 10th of September for five days). The
next event we are all looking forward to is the visit of Mr. David Rees,
ex-Head of Art Department at the Treorchy Comprehensive School. Mr. Rees' last visit was well received and the next in the series of lectures is eagerly looked forward to by all our members. Our next public demonstration will be by another artist from over the border, Chris Jones from Wiltshire. Subject to be arranged. All our
demonstrations are open to the public at a cost of just £2.00. These demonstrations have brought some of Britain's finest artists to Treorchy a tradition we hope to continue well into the future. * * * We look forward to meeting new visitors All Ystradyfodwg Art Society's demonstration evenings with an invited artist are open to the public.
